droot
It's been a while since I've had to post. I was hoping I could gather some advice from the community. I have 06 xc90 2.5t awd that needs to have it's E-Brake cables replaced. I have been quoted just for labor $700. I realize that running new E-Brake cables is a pain. Has anyone done this for xc90? How difficult of a job is this or is it more labor intensive because the center console has to come apart? I'm trying to decide whether or not I take this job on myself or have Volvo do it. (on a side note I just got my 2006 v70r and absolutely love I will post pics in the appropriate forum) Thank you for your help! 850rclone
I THINK that sounds right I know volvo recommends taking the center console out. not saying it cant be done without removing it is another story.
droot
Nick how hard of a job is this?
rj240
Sounds a little out of whack to me... According to VSTG, 1.9 hours to replace both rear parking brake cables, and 1.8 hours to replace the front parking brake cable... Are they including any other work in that $700 labour quote? Ihatespeedbumps
VSTG lists warranty labor time. Unless you've done quite a few, warranty time pays WAY too little. Most shops I know double/triple warranty time for customer pay work. That's how bad it is. I would assume in addition to cables they are replacing other brake hardware, but you didn't mention any such thing. Given that you're from Montreal I'm going to assume that your vehicle has a fair amount of corrosion, so I'm sure that was played a part in the quote. droot
The shoes and springs are new so they only need to replace the cables. The car is garaged all year round and there is little to no rust under the car. I spoke with John at Boston Volvo and he said that the e-brake cables blow up all the time because people don't use them. Then they go to use it that one time and boom no more cable. I've been buying my parts from John for a long time and I believe him. It's a crime if they jack the hours up on none warranty work. How is that legal? Ihatespeedbumps
It's a crime if they jack the hours up on none warranty work. How is that legal? Not close to a crime or ripping someone off. Most warranty times can't be beat by even experienced techs unless they've done a fleet of them. That's like asking you to work 8 hours and get paid for 4.6 of it. 831t5r
Yup volvo warranty timee suck balls. To replace the cables you need to remove center console. Takes 5 minutes. Tuen might have to remove 2nd row seats and carpets to acess where the cables slide into the cabin
