rbodor3
I've been trying to diagnose this for a while. Loud, single pop on hard accel (from a stop, or slow roll). Comes from driver's side only. Same pop on left hand turns. Same pop, sometimes, going over speed bumps. No popping on braking, right hand turns, or hard accell at higher speeds (30mp+). I'm running lowered bilsteins, ipd sways, eibach springs, poly engine and tranny mounts. I've checked tons of suspension parts for looseness/play, the Control Arm bushings aren't worn (replaced about 50k ago, though), ball joints are good no cracked boots (I have new ones in hand though), all the bolts & nuts are tightened down. Poly upper engine mount Alignment recent poly lower tranny mount New outer tie rods New spring seats (ipd) New strut mounts New tie-rod ends I'm completely out of ideas. +1 for life to whoever can help me troubleshoot this. RobT5M
Sway Bar End Links Tighten these. even if they LOOK fine, try to tighten them.
rbodor3
Id suspect rear subframe bushings Could be these. My driver's side one looks a bit dry-rotted, but nothing so bad as I'd expect any metal-to-metal contact. Not worn down yet? Tighten these. even if they LOOK fine, try to tighten them. Just checked them yesterday evening. Torque wrench read "really tight" haha
rbodor3
this is a picture of the pax engine mount. Looks torn, but could this alone be the cause? ipd part for reference. Mine appears to be slightly different then their picture, looks like the actual bushing part wasn't ripped on mine....
850rclone
Yeah I'd try sway bar links. I've heard of cars actually having issues in the passenger side and hearing it only on the left. so make sure you check both sides really well. 831t5r
Subframe bushings u need to pry on. Usually they make a squeaking or popping noise, regardless if bolts are super tight. Stick a pry bar between subframe and frame of vehicle right above rear subframe bushing and pry up and down see if it makes a noise
Ihatespeedbumps
Was the noise present before replacing the following? I'm running lowered bilsteins, ipd sways, eibach springs, poly engine and tranny mounts. the Control Arm bushings aren't worn (replaced about 50k ago, though) Poly upper engine mount Alignment recent poly lower tranny mount New outer tie rods New spring seats (ipd) New strut mounts New tie-rod ends
rbodor3
It was present before all of the replacements. BUT I can't recall if it was there before or after I replaced the struts, it was a long time ago that I did that. It's gotten progressively worse over the years. It used to be very subtle so I just thought some parts needed greasing. I checked the subframe bushings earlier today and noticed that my pax-side inner tie-rod was a touch loose. I've ordered a new pax tie rod but this doesn't make any sense to the popping noise. I don't think it's the right engine mount either.

rbodor3
I agree....sounds like you need some o-rings on top of them bushings as they shift in the sub frame. Wink I don't follow what you mean about O-Rings.... You're suggesting I add some o-rings on top of the bushings to keep them aligned?
MrWinkey
The S-80's had an issue with the subframe bushings shifting in the frame(up and down) volvo came out with an o-ring kit you install on top too correct this issue. However I have never seen this on a 60 series but it's entirely possible. I actually ran into this before Volvo came out with the kit.....That's what TSB's are (or Technician not technical service bulletins are all about) Re-read post #8 but even they you may not get the noise your after on a lift....kinda off the cuff gut feelin on this but a lot of my responses are that way and don't mean to steer ya' wrong but good place too look. ;)
rbodor3
I don't get TSB's since I have an *ahem* special version of VIDA Your advice is pretty sound, but I decided to try to cross-reference the part number in VIDA and online and quickly found iPD's remarks similar to yours for the S80.... But they apply to S60 similarly. The description reads nearly exactly what I feel my problem is. I'm ordering the part today hoping to get by the weekend since it's only $5, and will check the subframe bushings prior. here's the part from IPD's web page
