NJGreenBudd
Right on Al! Always good info from this guy! This tool is so helpful once up and running but unless you are PC savy you might want to rethink spending the money and hoping it works. The last few guys have all had bad versions of 2011A and have had to install 2010D to get running. Like he said, make sure your computer meets the system requirements for your version of VIDA. Anatoli
Good to know that it's supposed to work. Except you need to pony up about $100 for 3D subscription and then pay for actual downloads. Still might be a good deal for some people. As a side note, I started this thread, but forgot to mention that I was not able to run 2011A version of VIDA, since my 2010D worked as soon as I connected the device. wizzard_al
Anatoli: only way to get both running is to have dual boot, or to have different versions in virtual machines. Real benefit of 2011A is that it works on 2011 cars, and has features related to them. Have a friend who is a dealer mechanic, and he has his own personal DiCE unit, and uses VIDA 2010D even though he now has 2011A or later. 2010D is more stable than 2011A, mechanics hated 2011A because it would lock up at odd times. If you don't have a 2011 car now, then there is no reason for the latest version. Go with stable. I've got 2011A but haven't even tried to install it. If I did, I'd have to remove 2010D in all liklihood. It was a royal pain to install initially, I didn't have the correct OS (Win XP media version, so had to buy XP Pro) He also likes the USB connection, it is decidedly faster than the Bluetooth connection on the dealer VIDA cart. Anatoli
I only have 2003 and 2000 V70s now. Not looking to get into anything post 2007 anytime soon, really. It's for working on my own cars only. BTW, your info is really helpful.
Milo
I had a bunch of problems with OS versions and different problems and figured out some tricks. Computer requirements: 1 GB of Ram 20 GB on a system drive 10 GB of space free on the system drive OS requirements: XP SP3 (full SP3 not hacking the registry to make the software think it's SP3) Windows Framework 3.5 (don't rely on the VIDA software to install this it usually fails and causes others to fail) Windows Installer3.1 won't install from windows updates because SP3 is "newer". Other tricks: • I've had much more success installing VIDA from an .iso using daemon tools rather than installing off the DVD. It also installs faster. • Make sure you are fully updated with the most recent version of all Microsoft software. • Also you can't have the "DiCE diagnostic" software running while you have the VIDA software running. If you do then the DICE will show up in VIDA but fail on scanning.
