2000 V70xc Vacuum Hose Question

Bah

Recommended Posts

First off, this is not my car. I've been helping a bud at work try to fix up/diagnose his car, and while i enjoy working in a car parking lot sometimes, i don't have all my hoses etc up here in jax.so i'm very limited in what i can do. It is a 2000 v70xc.

So, i can't exactly dig in to his car to fix it so if anyone can help me figure out what hose this is, you'd be awesome. if it's something i could do with my limited tools (aka not take the intake manifold off...) , Then i might be able to help him out.

I've only looked at it at night time so i don't have any pictures, but the hose was connected to a T near the air box, and the broken section of the hose was connected to the I section, and went behind the intake manifold. It was also in a clip before the intake manifold, with one other hose (idk if there is normally two hoses in this clip or three or four or ??? ). As well, the hose literally is blown apart...i told him it is sucking shut at idle and that is why he doesn't have a loopy crazy idle...he has EVAP codes on so i was really hoping this was EVAP related, but i have no clue...hard to do all that much without tools in a parking lot.

Any clue what this vacuum hose is? I'm hoping it's not PCV related, but idk...there was a vacuum hose coming off the top of the manifold, i was REALLY hoping that was the same hose, but i didn't try to follow it back due to lighting and fear of breaking the hose and him not being able to drive home. Like i said, it was connected to a T *near* the airbox (It didn't look like the TCV since one side of the hose was going towards the front of the car and the other to the back lol..) So this is on the drivers side,

If anyone has a complete vacuum diagram for 2000 style cars, that would be great. the 93-98 diagrams don't help with this issue.

Thanks! Sorry for being so vague, but if you've ever helped someone with their car, in a parking lot, at night, it can be a bit hard to give a quick solution to what you diagnose. Also, if you know any cheap easy fixes that are common to this year (other then the AWD system, i took a drive with him and told him yeaaaaa time to switch back to FWD...) i would appreciate the input. He was going to give up on the car, since he gets screwed over by the mechanics, who have changed his oil for years, but never changed the oil cap gasket...it was broke in half until i showed it to him. Easy fix right? :) I'm trying to keep him with the car, and to show him what he can do himself.

Much appreciated!

Hello,

Yes, that hose is part of the EVAP system. One end of the "T"" connects to the canister purge valve and the other end to the fresh air hose (just before the turbo). You can replace the broken hose with generic vacuum hose, but the check valves also fail over time. Mine had one failed check valve (two total), allowing boost pressure to leak back into the fresh air pipe :(. Volvo only sells the hose assembly, not the valves separately. Ran about $65-70 at the dealer for the entire assembly if I recall. Anyway, fix that hose and his EVAP problem may be solved as well.

Hope this helps,

Joe

Appreciate the response!! I was hoping it was EVAP related, and if he's lucky atleast one of his codes will go away from fixing it!

I'll try to see if i can find some threads with the hose size so he has 0 downtime!

Now i at least know what it goes too! lol

Thanks!
