2000 Volvo S70 Glt Engine (135,556 Miles): Oil Leak Issues

I discovered an oil leak under my spark plug cover of my 2000 S70GLT and decided to investigate. Here is what I discovered when I looked inside each cylinder: #1 (clean), #2 (wet plug from a lot of engine oil in cylinder), #3 (damaged plug/sludge), #4 (sludge in cylinder), #5 (oil in cylinder).

Last night, after cleaning out each cylinder in a meticulous manner, I replaced the oil cap, all 5 coils, and 5 spark plugs with brand new parts. Today, it is still leaking-although a lot less- by the black tube that goes into the top of the engine between the 2nd & 3rd cylinder which is in front of the oil filler. What is the name of this tube and should I replace it?

I am trying to become a DIYer and am wondering what else could be the cause of these leaks. Thanks for your input!

That tube is for the PCV system - although that wouldn't cause leaking per se. If it seems clogged/backed up though, it'd be a good idea to do it. As a job it would not too difficult for a first time DIYer. Good luck!

These guys are, as usual corect. The follow up is that your PCV system is clogged and your crankcase and engine are being pressurized. Your oil cap gasket is currently the weak point and can be replaced and the oil will stop leaking out the cap into your spark plug wells. It will find a new place to come out though and you won't like its choices (the rear main seal is a $1k job you are probably not up to yet). If anybody has a good PCV DIY perhaps that would be helpful. If you invest in the proper swivels and associated hand tools necessary you can do this.

Sort of involved and kind of a pita, but trust me, you can do it with advanced research and preparation.
