Transmission Shutter On While Braking - 95 T5-r Auto

Hey guys,

I just starting having this concern yesterday while coming to a stop in a construction zone... I initially thought I went over some rumble strips, and the entire car was vibrating like crazy while braking... It happens as you are nearing a stop and it is only after I went over say 30 or 35 MPH... It is really weird and the only way I can describe the feeling is like going over the rumble strips on the highway... It is a high frequency vibration and I am wondering if the torque converter is screwing up or what...

Anyone have anything like this happen? I haven't checked for codes but the light is not on and the fluid still looks and smells good... Any ideas?

Oh and the car is bone stock... Thanks!

Sounds like your car does almost what mine does. Watch your RPMs, it seems like the torque converter stays locked up and won't shift out until you're almost at a complete stop. I have it happen to me a lot lately and it seems to only do it when the transmission fluid is extremely warm.

My car started doing that, and it turned out to be the brake pads. installed new rear brake pads with the grease and the crazy vibration went away. I thought it was something crazy also.

I was thinking it may have something to do with the brakes because it only does it when applying the brakes... I was think torque converter too but if I just coast down from speeds it doesn't do it... I have to pull the wheels off to put my pegs on anyway so I will check those at the same time.

I also had the same problem. I thought it was the TC staying locked up. It turned out to be the emergency brake shoes. They were coming apart. You will have to pull the rear rotors

off to check. It sure had me fooled. I am glad I checked the brakes before messing around with the tranny.

Sounds like you need those cut shims.

How do I cut the shims? Do you know how much or will it be apparent when I get the rotors off to take a look? And it makes sense now that the E-brake would be the cause, the flat bed driver that transported from TN to MI when I moved used the E-brake and it doesn't work so it may have over extended it...

you guys rock!!
