Hard to tell by the pic but that is a very small mount. In the photo it looks like the crack already has rust on it? If it did thats been cracked for longer than a day. Could just be angle I guess. Better pic of the crack on the strut side?

It's definitively rust. Kind a strange though, must be some kind of physical reaction in the material when it snapped of that made it corrode like this.

At least it can be fixed, right?

It's going to be interesting how over time the group of people that jumped on these D2s review them and their thoughts about their longevity.

Thats not really fixable. But I would assume its on warranty.

I'm having a discussion with the dealer, they asked for pics to send to D2. I will not be satisfied with a new pair of struts without a redesign of the mounting, it's definitely to weak.

tempts me to take them apart, bring the sleeve to my friend and have him throw some gussets in it *goes to check his coilovers*

Umm no. Looks like there was a pinhole in the weld and there was never proper penetration. IE there was a weld that went all the way around, but not through. Not a design flaw, but a QCQA issue.

Couldn't weld a new bracket onto it? Perhaps one that's a little more heavy duty?

You would have to take it completely apart. You can not weld to a live strut... or you shouldn't at least.
