lookforjoe
Yes, both the LG Speed Header & Rods each only took a week to get to me from Sweden.
Boxman
Che_moderator, are you absolutely sure about this radius of 27.5? As your picture shows radius 33 for the stock rod, but the specifications from my picture showed 2 - R23
Che'_Moderator
Stock was 23.5. Image one shows 33 because I had two steps there when I I did the car. Something like a 33 and a 22.
Boxman
Well I got a reply, Maxspeedingrods says that the R radius of their rods is 23 already (like in the picture I placed on here earlier) and thus that 27.5 doesn't make any sense to them. So again my question; how much longer exactly is the cylinder wall of >'99 engines compared to my <'99 engine?
Che'_Moderator
If larger radius = more clearance does not make sense to them, RUN.
Boxman
Valid point there. Made the same error in my own mind aswell...I'll see what they have to say on that, and if nothing happens I'll get my refund and buy those LGspeed rods. They cost exactly the same (+- 4 euro's in total).
Che'_Moderator
You have been banging this around too long now. You gave them a chance now its time to move on.
notaduc
I work in a CNC and engine machine shop. I would absolutely not recommend modify the rods for a number of reasons. It is very easy to clearance the block. Die grinder, dremel, or even a file, just be sure you dont contact the cylinder bores. Maybe I missed something, why you were considering trying to modify the connecting rods?
Boxman
Because the seller told me they could build me essentially a custom set for my engine, and I only had to send the faulty rods back afterwards. Plus, taking apart the block again is a bigger hassle for me than waiting for better rods to arrive. I've already glued the midblock on and bolted it to spec with new stretch-bolts. Taking it apart would mean another set of bolts and cleaning al the shitty glue again, then dremel, essentially big time consumer when better options are at hand. My next step will be ordering the lgspeed rods. They are similar to the maxspeeding rods (arp bolts and appartenly 1000HP strength, so that will never be the weak link), only they specifically state that they will fit on older blocks and no grinding is necessary with those. Boxman
Just here to conclude the story; they said they could build me a new set, and they did. MaxSpeedingRods deserve some serious credit for this level of customer support - we shared over 50 emails and eventually came to this conclusion. They sent me the new and improved rods at the same time I sent the wrong ones back. Very happy with this outcome. Now look at my new rods, they're awesome! Che'_Moderator
Test fit them yet?
Volvo5.0
Glad they took care of it for you! This shot is from a different angle, but they look very similar to the RSI rods. Maybe made by the same company?
Boxman
I tought the RSI rods were a bit slimmer (they were sizewise an exact match to the stock rods), while these really are thicker than OEM. Anyway they are very very nice rods Anyway, Che_moderator, I test fitted one and it fits perfectly.
lookforjoe
I'm just curious where you, and the company are located. I'd be surprised (given that it's been a couple of weeks) if they didn't just order more rods from China for you (and then stamp their tag on them). I doubt anyone in the US or EU is actually manufacturing these.
