Sas - Identification And Benefits Of Removal

I see so many topics of Volvo 850 cars with SAS and users removing these systems. My questions are;

- How does one identify if their engine is equipped with a SAS system? I can't seem to find anything about this.

- If one has SAS, what are the benefits of removing/deleting this?

I checked if there was a valve somewhere near the tree on my inlet valve. Also there are only 2 vacuum lines attatched to my tree, my understanding was that there should be more if EGR is installed..

What's otherwise the best way to check for EGR?

Also I live in the Netherlands (europe) so maybe we just don't have very strict emission requirements?

Look directly under the throttle body, there would be a brass tube that connects the bottom of the intake manifold, wraps around the drivers side of the engine and connects to the exhaust manifold if you had EGR.

If you have this stuff, you have EGR:

where are you from? Euro spec model years 95 (and i THINK early 96) came without EGR and SAS.

since model years in the US are manufactured usually a year prior to release, 95 models are 94's, 94 models are actually 93's, so on and so forth.

94-95 was EGR, 97-98 was SAS. US 1996 models did not have either system.

Edit: I see you're from the Netherlands. you would most likely have neither system unless yours is an early model 95.

Not entirely true. Both my old 1996 and my girlfriend's current 1996 have SAS. And my '95 doesn't have any '94 stylings, as well as my brother's '94 didn't have '93 stylings.

Totally agree, my 96 also came with SAS. Now deleted.

A way to be sure how the car shipped from the factory is just decode the VIN

http://new.volvocars.com/ownersdocs/1995/1995_VIN-VIC/vin1995.html

you can use the same format for any year, just change the URL.

You will see 96 came with or without EGR, with or without air pump, etc.

what i mean is that the manufacturing date is one year frior for US vehicles. like what i'm trying to say is MOST of the 1998 S70's and V70's were built in 1997, with the hydraulic tensioner (mine was a 6/98 build, resulting in the newer style tensioner on my 2.3 block). US 1995 vehicles didn't have the old switches and dash because their model year was 1995. make sense? lol

i'm thinking the N/A 1996's did not have SAS then? i'm not sure.
