Installing Electric Seat Frame On Manually Operated Seat?

Recommended Posts

I've got a full leather interior, and I want to keep it that way. Only mine are manually operated. Basically I'd just like to know if it's possible to swap the seat mechanics for an electically powered one, while keeping the seat itself?

I'm thinking of getting myself some powered seats of which the seat itself is shot but the adjustment mechanism still works, and then swapping the mechanisms so I've got full leather electrically adjustable seats.

get the whole electric seat frames, make sure they are in WORKING condition

swap the seat foam and skins to the new electric seats. that's the easiest way to do it if you really decide to keep the same seat skins.

Most of the electric seats come with leather/alcantara or just fabric skins. Other than me wanting to keep my own full leather skins, mint seats are way way more expensive than seats with ripped skins and cushions - they wouldn't be able to sell those to anybody, apart from people like me who have a specific cause for them.

Yes, it can be done as you stated - did it before to our V70 - with power seat frame from an 850, no less!

The four bolts that fasten the 'upper' portion of the seat should line up nicely to the lower seat frame.

How did this go? Did 850 seat frames / electronics in the V70 , being an ME 4.4 , work ? I have heard it may be a problem and as i am about to put my old seats from my 855R wagon into my V70T , i was worried , it can have the heaters working but not the seats i have found when looking at seat problems on forums......

Thats the 'old' wagon in my sig , and thats where it was hit by a silly young girl.......136,000 kl/m , re-built engine (water ingestion....) Was not happy at all..........

Hope all is well!

It worked - our V70 is 98, and the seat was from a 94. At the time, I even managed to get the heating elements from the 94 seat (the upper portion of the frame I used) and made the driver seat of the V70 heated. The seatbelt fastening to the lower frame is different for 850 but I made it to work without compromising safety.

I have a similar question for anyone who may know. I found a donor car at the parts yard and already swaped the powered driver seat from the '96 850 to my '93. It seems to work fine heater and all. My passengers seat is not powered, but it is heated and I wanted to also swap the powered passenger seat from the '96 to my '93. How can I run power to the motors? The heater power is the only existing connection on my passenger side.

I was wondering if there is a hidden harness or at least a connecting area. Any advice?

Our V70 is like that, only one power source and it was on the passenger side believe it or not.

I tapped into this existing one and run it under the carpet and console to power the driver side and the only thing is you can't adjust the seats at the same time.

Other than that, it works.

Good luck.

I kind of figured I might try that. I could chop the connectors from the donor car and fabricate a sort or Y harness.

Thanks for the suggestion I may do this.
