Leather Upholstry

Who's interested in getting new seats for S60? Called this guy today http://elwoodindustries.com/id2.html and sounds like he knows what's up. The price is the best for a real seat (not seat cover). And it's leather and matches color to interior. He makes and ships them, you either install which looks pretty easy based on his directions, or if you're totally incompetent pay an upholstry shop to install.

The prices are the best I've found (about $490 for the front seats eatch). He doesn't list S60 on his web page, but he told me he has the pattern for an 01 V70 which should have the same front seats as 01 S60.

I've called a couple of upholstry shops, and the next closest price was $1300/front seats only total, plus a week of downtime for the car for them to tear and install. And that's a rough estimate, saying that it could very well likely be more expensive.

Who all is in on this?

His prices are significantly higher than most upholstery shops would charge, and that doesn't include labor. You need to make some more phone calls. Plus with the S60 seats and their seat airbag sensors I wouldn't mess around. Would be much cheaper and more logical to find a salvage yard and buy some nicer seats if yours are worn out.

Have you called around for this?

About a year ago I called around a handful of places in Atlanta to get quotes, the best I heard was $500/seat (again about 1 week downtime).

Just this week I called around here in Indy and the best I got was $1300 combined for both front seats (1 week downtime) possibly a bit more.

I do see that Saabstuff sells seat covers for about $450/seat for the fronts.

Yes, I've called around. Not than an S70 seat is much different than an S60 seat but my numbers were based on S70 seats.

Like I said, the S60's have weird airbag sensors and wires built in to the seat cushions that can easily be messed up if you aren't an expert at what you're doing. It will be MUCH cheaper and safer to just find a pair of seats from a wrecked car and pop them in than mess around with seat covers.

  • 1 month later...

has anybody ordered seat covers from this guy

http://saabstuff.com/volvo-leather-seat-covers/

It's like $450/seat for the covers I'm looking for. Says he's been in business for 20 years, had no complaints etc. etc.

But I haven't seen any reviews, and with a 7 week lead-time I'm worried about scam.

Just emailed saabstuff. I'm thinking red :D

Question though. If I did go with a different color, I'd like to change my door panels and such to match. Maybe I could get lucky and find a black interior coupe being parted, but I'd like to make the center part of the door panel red. What's the best way to do that? I know they make vinyl paint but that seems ricey haha, can't imagine it would last.

The center panel is just glued on. You can carefully pull it and have someone reupholster it with matching material. That is my plan when I get around to the point of installing the pristine charcoal panels I have sitting in my basement. My current ones have black leather centers (OEM) but the stitching is wearing and the driver's side panel is cracked from a seat belt getting caught in the door by a previous owner. So I'm going to upgrade the new panels before installing.

Gotcha. Yeah they got back to me and said they will provide extra leather to do the panels with, so I'll get somebody to do it.

If these guys are legit, I'm gonna do it in the next year or so. I guess the best way to go will be to just find a black interior car that's being parted out.

They quoted me $1650-$1750 which I don't think is bad at all for the entire interior.
