During Rms Job, What Else Should I Replace?

cn90 I hear you on the DIY, some people prefer to do this job on the bench, fair enough. I just prefer to wait it out and get the axle rebuilt because on my car CVs failed at such high mileage.

The 60k - 90k figure you quote is ridiculously low for the factory axle, you will find almost no one with that experience from an 850/x70 car. Even yours lasted to what 100k and 12 years? I suspect the main cause of failure on your car was just time, so that is where climate and road salt etc comes in to the equation.

On my car, one CV boot went out at 160k, well actually it came back from the alignment shop with a tear in it (i.e. I doubt it failed - they trashed it).

On the other side a CV boot split at 190k, with the normal wear pattern in the folds. That is 190k of mostly city driving, lots of turns. The OEM boot is very durable.

FAST850R you want to look at the accordion folds of the rubber bellows boot, see if there is cracking. Some cracking is normal as the boots are pretty thick, but a deep crack that is about to split open is a red flag.
