No rub except at full lock and when going over bumps or no rub at all. Because now that I look Matt had 19x8.5 in front and 19x10 in the rear of my coupe but the fender liners are trashed. And I have 18" nebulas on it now that don't rub.

They "fixed" that full lock issue by putting insane steering stops that doubled the turn radius of my 2000 model. I trimmed them down to make them a little more drivable. I only rubbed liner in the back toward the outer edge when the rear was lowered 3+ inches. Dremel and 5 minutes took care of that :) With "normal" springs you will be fine.

I can post doomsday photos of our roads near Seattle, too, if you want. In fact the entire way to my house has had grooved pavement with 3 inch drop offs for the last two weeks while they work on repaving. If I didn't have bags, I would be fvcked.

I'm assuming IPD blues qualify as normal then (which is what I have). But if I go the KW route there might be issues getting a better low without rubbing?

I can post sink holes that swallowed up a little bit of the road infront of my neighborhood.

Will that work?

Pot holes so big you can fit your house in!

Funny you say that, we just had a sinkhole a size of a pickup truck

Yes, those are normal. You won't have any problem in front as long as you stay about the same overall diameter as a 225/40/18 - so 19s w/ 225/35 or 20s w/ 225/30 are fine. I was right on top of tire/slightly tucking in front without issues and no fender rolling even required. C70s don't have that huge metal fender overhang like the 850s have.

In my day, we didn't have smooth roads...

I've had a landslide near my house take out the entire road going up to my house. It was caused by our copious rain and lack of strong-rooted trees on the hillside.

My car typically drives 1 inch off the ground and I have super low profile tires on most of my wheels.

In related news, my bad roads pee stream will go further than yours.

This is precisely why I was considering going bigger - I almost wish I had kept those iForged's that Josh had on the car when I bought it. But it was December and the prospect of driving the car 600 miles home in the snow on the Toyo Proxes made me extremely nervous.

See I could never have my car that low... 1 inch...

Unless I was matt and had Air. then only when parked lol

Back to the wheels.

How big is too big?

What car are you asking for? An S70? An 850? In my mind, anything over 20" is too big since you start to move into donk range at that point with the boxy lines of these cars.

 good question because the wheel wells are a little bit different arnt they?

But I would have to go with both.

My canistos looked great on the 850, but im a bit iffy of them on the s70.

In my scientific opinion, too big is when the tires go more than about a half an inch over factory diameter. Once you go much bigger (see Serge's thread about 215/50/17s), you will start to hit fender liner and rub a lot. Two examples:

  • My C70 had 225/45/17 tires from the factory - which is approximately 25" overall diameter. My 20's were 225/30/20 which made them 3/10s inch over factory at 25.3".
  • My 1996 855t came factory with 205/50/16s at 24.1" and I put 215/35/18 at 23.9" on to replace them, thereby keeping the same overall diameter.

Based on my rule then, then biggest you want to go is 215/35/19 (24.9") on this T5R which would have come with 205/45/17 Pirellis (24.3") or 20" on a C70.

Ever been north of the border, specifically in Toronto? It ain't BS. And the worst ones are on the freeway, guaranteed a bent wheel hitting these if you have low sidewalls.

^ I would stay in the other lane like the smart people are doing :)

Yeah... avoid that shit... theres a reason the steering wheel turns the car.

Yeah. Even if there are cars beside you in the other lanse, use your steering wheel to avoid the potholes. You'll run into the other cars but that's okay because your wheels won't be bent... right? :P
