ive sourced a 2000 m56h tranny and wondered if there was ANY way to tell if it has the 4.00 final drive ratio or the 4.45??

decoding the VIN from the junker only tells it's an m56 (besides reading the tag on the actual tranny lol)..

if it helps, the car was a 2000 S70 2.4 n/a

i also found a 2000 C70 2.3t with m56h.. prob more likely to have the 4.45 ratio?

how can ya tell?

thanks fellas

i searched and i found that most M56Hs are 4.00 and that one person found an M56h that was 4.25 out of an 04, my guess is that your na transmission is going to be a 4.00, perhaps the C70 will be 4.45, but from what i read it sounds like youll have to go into p2 to get something less 4.00 and more 4.45

Some say that the 4.45 final drive transmissions have an increased tendency to cause broken axles, tire pressure fluctuations, and are especially hard on control arms/bushings. Might want to stick with a regular 4.00 unit.

so the tag would actually tell you what the final drive is? like a VIN you'd have to decode or it would have all gears and final ratios listed??

i'd read that the 2000 m56hs were the ones to have this particular ratio as an option so my best bet would be to get a 2000, no?

hehe, you already know the dealio my greek friend..

as for the topic, i apologize to you guys for not cleaning the 1" thick casing of dirt/oil surrounding the tranny and hiding the tag!

as 5.0 has shown, it's there and reads M56H, 4.00 :o(

btw, what's the diff with the "HK"

ratios?
