Ghost Shadow
D2 Coilovers. In no way am i endorsing or promoting D2. Just informing our VS members..plus i just wanted to post pictures up of my latest mod! hahaha This is my experience and my thoughts on them. So far i can only share good, no bad and now its not so ugly. You can call me a dumb ass if you read this post and find out why i ended up doing coilovers LOL. Owners manual/Install guide What comes in the box What does these fit? I know that it will work on my 2001 C70 Convertible, But basically they will work on 93-97 FWD 850's, 98-00 FWD S70 and V70, and 98-04 FWD C70 Coupe and convertible Members on here will chime in on what they got it on. My car is now on its 3rd suspension setup 1: Stock everything 2: Eibach Pro Kit, XC90 mounts, Bilstein HD shocks, IPD old style sways, QBM 1st gen endlinks 2.5: Cut eibachs.....bad idea, especially on a vert and even more so if you forget to cut the bump stops and then realize it later and find out you cut one too many coils and the car sits on the floor (ima dumb ass) 3: D2 Coilovers on its softest setting and their endlinks with the IPD sways The way i did it was... A: Installed both front shocks as usual, if you need to know how to do that please stop now and just look at the pictures LOL B: Move the ABS sensor mounting tab C: Put wheels back on both sides with the sway bar end links off and put it down on level ground. D: checked the height if i was happy with it, i took it off and proceeded to F: if not.. take the wheels off E: Adjust shock mount "B" in the bottom picture. this changes the height of the car WARNING: you adjust the shock too far down you will start hitting/rubbing the cv boot, so dont be greedy with how low you want to go. F: I put a jack stand under each front control arm to simulate the car being on the ground G: I put a bolt into the hub, turned it to the upper most point and measured the distance from there to the edge of the fender H: Did this on both side to confirm the shock/ car will be level I: There is a lock ring to lock the shock mount. USE A HAMMER AND A SCREW DRIVER TO LOCK IT DOWN J: with part "A" i threaded it up to give the spring some pre-load and locked it down K: Measured out the end link to 255mm because thats what the center of shock mounting tab to the sway bar is.(no idea what the length does to the way the car feels) L: Put the wheels on torque the bolts down M: the car should have too much camber, the camber plates are "locked" when you get to the alignment shop and he dude says i cant adjust the camber plates WTF. tell him to take two out and screw it into the extra threaded hole on the camber plate. picture below Now onto the rears, what can i say? these are as easy as it can get. basically the same thing as the fronts minus the end links. well it actually is. different cars require different things to get to the upper shock mount, some are easier that others.. My vert is easy but everything is tight. BTW: little side note... I had 32mm hub adapters from motorsport-tech with my old eibach bilstein hd setup. with the 19x 9.5 wheels. Now i am running same wheels with a 20mm spacer 32mm Spacer with eibachs 32mm spacers front with cut eibachs and no bump stops cut. you can imagine what it looked like with no bump stop you can imagine what it looked like with no bump stop, if you cant...here it is This is how it looks today, on a cloudy day with a alignment and fenders rolled, 20mm spacer in the front and a 28mm spacer in the rear. No rubbing anymore. side by side before and after not she's looking alot better, no more offroad 4x4 look....i would like it to be lower but, i will suffer driveability IMHO. So far after 35 miles, i get a sqeak from the rear, i know what i did wrong after writing up this post...the car drives sooooooo much better than the eibachs. it was to a point i didnt drive it much or far because it drove really rough/stiff. its like jeckle and hyde now. soft when need to be cruising and a beast on the off ramps !! Post up your D2 good/bad/ugly
Overboost850
Good brief write up! Great to see new suspension options out there for these cars.

Timbo Slice
Bump back up. i feel as if I'm getting the same drivability as when you were on Eibachs. I've got IPD springs on stock struts (how the car came to me) and I cringe every time I approach a bump. hopefully this summer I can slap some of these on and be happy. Any update on ride quality? Yellow95
Honestly. if IPD's and stock struts are too harsh for you then you probably dont want coilovers. Just sayin. Gary
Timbo Slice
I understand where you're coming from Gary. I had both K-sport and KW Coilovers on my '01 S40 and it was definitely more of a rough ride than stock, but these IPD springs are harsh. I'm not sure if that makes sense, but I've been told by a few that coilovers vs. IPD springs are much smoother. I don't mind a rougher ride. plus, my entire rear strut assembly needs to be replaced as the shocks are worn and the seats aren't in great condition anymore. I just finished installing these and was surprised the ride wasn't as rough as I expected. Both from and rear are stiffer than the Weitec Cup Kit was running before, but the ride isn't that bad. At freeway speed a sharp bump is actually handled better than the Weitec. Low speed you can feel how stiff it is, but again, it isn't as bad as I expected. I haven't ridden in a car with IPD springs, but I can't image they would be this stiff. If your rear spring seats are bad you will have to buy new. The D2 uses the stock seats. No way is that true lol. iPd springs ride much nicer than coilovers. (I've had both)
Black Betty
I have my D2's set to full stiff F/R, last night I ventured out in College Park and encountered some rough roads. The D2's are far rougher than the IPD's I'm going to soften mine up a bit and see how soft these go though.
boosted_brick
how long do the shocks last? the sachs i just installed say 50k miles and if i did coilovers i'd like to see them last longer than that. shocks tend to fail before struts, right? can you even buy the shocks without the struts? Timbo Slice
I appreciate the info guys. I was planning on going with coilovers soon anyways to get some more low but can't justify paying $1,500+ for KW's. I'll probably end up going with these. Thanks again. They aren't a conventional shock. Both front and rears are cartridges with the mounting points that spin on the bottom. That means they are used on many different cars, so the cost should be lower if you need to replace one.

Piston Slapper
I've not had the chance to ride in a coilover equiped 850/x70, but I can say my IPD springs can be rather harsh. I cringe when I see bumps coming on the interstate. I've got bilstein touring up front and HD in the rear.
