As far as ride quality, It's my opinion and experience that there is no way a strut/drop spring assembly will ride softer than any coil over set up, at any settings.

Huh? Did you mean the reverse of that?

Ive driven in (and owned) a bunch of Volvos with various suspension setups - coilovers (diy / KW), struts (bilstein tc, hd / oem / koni yellow, fsd), and springs (iPd, B&G, H&R, Kilen, etc). The only spring/strut setup that rode worse than or equal to coilovers was bilstein HDs + any lowering spring.

All of this 'which is harsher' is very subjective and varys based on personal experience, local roads, etc.

The only objective thing to be said is that any suspension performance mod will negatively affect how comfortable the ride is, it's inherent in how they achieve better handling characteristics.

As for modifying the suspension for aesthetic reasons, 'it's soooo low, brah' is, in my opinion, very stupid and on par with a caprice 3 feet in the air with giant wheels and rubber band tires. Or the pneumatic bouncy crap.

p.s. It's also a wee bit off topic.

Alright, initial thoughts after about 100 miles on them.

first 50 miles: arrangement of back roads from hairpins to 75 mph sweepers.

Not to stiff, not to soft. running them at 4 notches down from full stiff in the front, and 12 clicks from stiff in the rear. No front sway bar, IPD 25mm rear. Camber set at 0 in front, full low in the rear, and about 1/3 of an inch from full low in the front (before strut would be touching CV boot).

Entry and Exit into hairpins/<45 mph corners:

Very very neutral, car slightly pushed on turn in then gained traction and stayed neutral through out the corners. S turn weight transfer is light and day compared to my Kilen and sachs set up. Power traction is astronomically better, exit from a 4,500 rpm 2nd gear hairpin I was able to go near full throttle without wheel spin. I feel as though the slight push is due to cold weather with my tires.

Sweepers/High entrance and exit/ >60 mph corners:

Very flat with my set up, no push and body roll is kept to minimal. With the front sway bar detached, i was able to get a slight amount of over steer when wanted, but car stayed as near to neutral as a fwd volvo can be. Entrance ramp to i95, i was able to maintain a speed ~10 mph faster than (turn in at 65 vs ~55) and felt as though I was not pushing as hard as I used too. Again, with the disconnected front sway I was able to put power down right at the apex and muscle through 3rd gear with limited wheel spin.

Highway cruising:

Very surprised how well the car rode at 75-85 mph with the front dampening settings set so stiff, car was not bouncy or jittery (all subjective to driver though). I feel like dampening set to full soft it would be a very comfortable ride. Lane change and cruising was very assuring. I did however get on the merrit for about 10 miles (anyone from the soconn area knows about the merrit and how much it sucks at life), and i will say hitting some pot holes and large bumps at 70+ was quite uncomfortable, however the car was very well controlled and even when "unloading" occurred the car did not feel to loose control.

I did notice a substantial clunk coming from the rear, when chassis flex is happening at lower speeds. Yet to investigate however it sounds like the rubber that goes between the rear spring and the perch is not in there properly so I will take a look later this week.

Will get better pictures this week.

I just bought longer turnbuckles on fleabay, if they end up being the right length and working I'll post back and let you guys know. The turnbuckles are cheap so if this works it should save members some $$

Awesome! Good to know, I'd love to put the endlink ends to use with some longer middle sections!

I believe the front springs are bit too stiff. I think you will find if you run the front at full soft there will not be much difference from your current setting.

Anyone know what the spring rate is on these? 12_205 doesn't mean a whole lot to me without a guide. :)

Where did you buy them, I'm curious.

I bought mine here. http://www.jmautoracing.com/racing19921997-volvo-coilovers-p-44810.html

There are other places that were a little cheaper, but didn't trust the sites. Not a lot of communication from JM, but shipping was fast.

I also found the answer to my spring rate question by going back to that link. :)

just because i've never actually foudn the answer to this and if the conversion site i used is correct, the fronts r 480 lb/in springs and rear is 250 lb/in ?

From what I have been able to find, that is correct.
