Q-Ship
The transaxle is unique because its rear wheel drive, but the gearbox and diff are one unit and it is at the rear wheels, not directly behind the engine. It is coupled with a "torque tube"... That adds to the even weight balance of the car. Love the Revolutions...had a set of 13s on an old RX7 thanks scumcity
BurgerBob
The wheels are great! The four-spoke really compliments the boxy nature of these cars.

URO_S60
I had a 944 and the transmission is located at the rear end and the wheels are turned directly by that no rear diff like most other rwd cars. They are a PITA and cost an extremely high price to work on them or get parts for them, hence the reason why I sold my '86.5 944 S was because the clutch went (which was made of a rubber disc) and was quoted for a $3200 job for a clutch replacement because of the hard to find oem clutch and the labor. Dick Dastardly
Just look at post #11 for an explanation of a transaxle....They have a diff, just like a fwd car has a diff... its in the transaxle...hence the name "transAXLE" The clutch is mounted to the flywheel just like a rwd car They are easier to R&R then a fwd transaxle once you are familiar with them... As far as $3200, rubber clutches go... I hope you never go to that mechanic again.. 944s now use a regular clutch/pressure plate made by Sachs as a replacement.. for @ $
Jardim
I rather have the 2 liter than the V6. Looking at the pics from the other thread of the engine bay, it looks like a PITA to work on. Plus the 2L helps out with P/W ratio.
