Perhaps they missed a few days of finishing school, and for the guy, who knows what is going to roll up into a NYC McDonald's? The problem is, who determines the amount and propriety of the ass kicking? Tire iron? Bionic Elbow? Once upon a time people would kick somebody's ass for good measure because they needed it - let 'em go home and learn something... Nowadays you can't trust that. Even if it was a midget counter. Do you not understand the difference between defending yourself and taking it too far? I know we both agree that in this case there was no such thing. But the law DOES allow that guy to defend himself, just not to the extent he did. With the logic that after he 'defended', he was then providing some street justice. An example might be that you can shoot a guy entering your home, but you are not allowed to chase him in to the garage, break both legs, drag him around the garage, and stomp him.
