Now just need to find out what one more vacuum hose goes to. Its from the bcs. swap out the heater core. fill engine up with some kerosene, and some old filtered oil. fill up the coolant. put passenger tire back on and install battery. another 2 hours.should be running tomorrow and I expect to drive it to work on Wednesday!

been so long since i messed with a bcs diagram LOL, had to reference this AGAIN!

Its official, its done, its running, it gots its first bath, i put 3 miles on it just now. tomorrow i drive it to work.

To all those that wanted this car. WOW, thats all i have to say, not a squeak, not a groan, nothing, just the humming from the darn air pump. I have no radio code so thats how i know LOL

It desperately needs HIDS and new headlamps. I feel like i am driving blindfolded.

Suspension is tight, nothing clumking nada. Had her up to 50mph and it was quiet. So here are the pics tonight.

@carwash getting the grime rinsed off

stupid me, well stupid car dealer mechanic does not know how to put on a oil cooler line into the radiator. this mess happened once the car started.

5 quarts of fresh valvoline 5w30 on the fucking floor and all over the place

IMG_20111115_204511.jpg

This is what came out of the engine

IMG_20111115_204506.jpg

Here are videos of her running

First try, LOL

th_VID_20111115_195511.jpg

Second try, shut it off because oil cooler line fucking came off!!!!!!!

th_VID_20111115_195620.jpg

Final after running for 15 minutes

th_VID_20111115_202206.jpg

WHOOOOO HOOOOOOOO I DID IT!!!

First head gasket for me!!!!!!!!!

2 AWD Engine swaps

2 manual swaps

1 head gasket

Head gasket is actually not really that bad, engine swap is quicker but it seems like the head gasket engine is so silky smooth, it idles like my wife's 2010 Mini cooper S clubman with 19,994 miles on it. :)

What i have learned and what i would do differently from this project...

What should be done...

  • Planning helps alot
  • Change everything, unless you know it is good for sure
  • Change Heater hoses, they a pita to get to when the car is back together
  • change rad hoses, read above :)
  • timing belt
  • waper pump, of course the bolts and gasket that goes with it
  • tensioner, CHECK TO MAKE SURE WHAT YOU HAVE. its a 10mm bolt and the cover comes off
  • timing belt pulley
  • if you order a head gasket kit, it will come with the rear water line gasket, oil cap gasket, turbo oil line o ring, turbo oil return gasket, the copper crush waters for the turbo, and some other crap i dont know where they go
  • check the oil cooler lines going into the radiator..look in one of the above pics if you need to know why :)
  • get hoses for the overflow bottle, they cheap ..you might as well
  • valve stem seals
  • get a real nice torque wrench
  • get a pvc coupler from home depot that is the same size as your rear and front cam seals. this way putting them on is alot easier
  • get a tool to put on the sepentine tensioner
  • EXPECT PROBLEMS AND BROKEN BOLTS OR WHATEVER. DOnt start this on friday night and expect to drive it to work on monday.
  • Buy some cheapo on sale oil, you'll be dumping it in a few hundered miles after the engine is broken in
  • buy oil filter
  • good time to consider new alternator and starter $$$$$ i did, and i know in the next 100,000 i will not need to do it again

What i would do differently?

  • Dont order mods till car is up and running stock first
  • Order more Oil Dri LOL
  • drain oil first, before starting project
  • pour some kerosene into the engine block and let her soak while you do this project
  • order two boxes of 100 gloves, started with a fresh box, i have 8 or 10 left right now.
  • dont use easy off on the valve cover and "let it soak overnight" its a pita to get off the next day lol
  • do use it on the engine pistons is ok, just clean the stuff off asap
  • get alot of degreaser, cleaner, solvents, ect...best time to clean this engine now, when its closed up its hard to get in there
  • Not much else

Will some time and patience. My project was a sucess, it started right up, after i charged the battery. i got one check engine code(p0243), turned out to be a unplugged BCS/TCV :)

/end story

Congrats on a successful job! There's always that initial fear that it won't start up on 1st try, even when you know you're checked & double checked everything.... then it's very satisfying when it starts right up. :D

To your list, I'd add degrease the engine bay BEFORE taking it all apart - it's much nicer to work with, without all that extra dirt & grime.

New from Firstech! The FT-RPS TOUCH is compatible with all AlarmIt and MaxIt Systems. It contains three super blue LEDs that flash while the system is armed. The system will also respond to a double touch that pages your 2 Way remote and lets you know someone is trying to reach you at your vehicle. The FT-RPS TOUCH takes innovation further with a touch unlock feature. Program a 4 digit code that lets you disarm your system without remote and key. Hold your finger on the sensor to also rearm your system.

Compatible with: AlarmIt and MaxIt Systems Only.

Now the debate is,

Keep it or sell it
