Che'_Moderator
pegs suck when...this was a set that was straightened, these were bent before i got them. the metal might have been compromised before on this wheel thus causing the failure. Ghost Shadow
Anything else you want to share? i had them refinish it black lol upon inspection, this didnt look like one of the wheels that were straightened. i would have to agree it weight might attribute to this wheel failing

Ghost Shadow
Were they powder coated? yes for extra strength lol why? does it matter? would it make it worse or better?
exexpat
You mean the same BBS we all pray to at night made wheels which may indeed fail? This is blasphemy and sacrilege. BBS and Apple are the only sacred and flawless things in this universe - or so I am told.
Che'_Moderator
Sigh. This is the perfect storm of fail. Powdercoating weakens rims. Being bent and re-straightened weakens rims. Being on a vehicle thats 1000 lbs heavier than intended weakens rims. Did you file little grooves on the back of each spoke also? These rims were doomed. mojojo
I have found pegs to be very sturdy - I've lost at least 5 tires due to potholes, and not one bent peg. That last pic is impressive. That rim held together pretty well considering the impact. Could have shattered into many pieces if it were a weaker design. I'm with you here. I've only lost two tires due to pot holes, and both times, my wife was driving (with lots of history in lowered cars, coil overs, big wheels, etc... I'd consider my self an above average pot hole dodger), but not once have I bent a rim... and I always see these stories on the net of people bending rims from bumps and what not, but could never imagine how hard they must go at it if I can't manage to tweak one of mine. boosted_brick
that's pretty crazy. did you just hit the rim against the curb or was the rest of the car involved?

No. He just threw it to a Gorilla and let nature take its course. Coco the monkey test > real world. What do you mean was a car involved?

Johann
Yes.. only tell half the story.. Maybe 18" OEM Pegs suck but I have driven over 70K miles on them and apart from street rash never had any issues with them.
laird
Pegs were designed for stupid high offset and multi-pot caliper clearance What car were they designed for?
DevolvR
Those are cast Just to make things clear, not all Casy wheels are crap. There's also a method of casting called Flow Form Casting(Spun Rim or Rim Rolling) that can get to Forged wheel like strengths. Most of the current model BBS Cast wheels are made this way (perhaps not OEM though).
