boxpin
I always thought that the M56L and M56H were a difference of 1st and 2nd gears but 3rd and 4th were the same. I am changing transmissions and decided to count the ring gear teeth. The transmission I pulled out is 84/21 and the new transmission is 83/22(ring gear/cluster gear). Do I have an M56L and a M56H? How do you tell, I dont have a sticker on it Somebody help clarify please. I have always disliked the high RPMs on the freeway and first gear being over before it starts, I guess that is going to not be an issue anymore
ozzimark
They come with varying final drive ratios: I don't see 3.77 on the M56H list though, so the new trans is an L. 1st and 2nd will be slightly shorter than on the L, even with the taller final drive, but top speed in 3rd, 4th and 5th will be improved. Sounds like a win/win to me
TyConn
what did the m56lk come on? cause in my damn 850, at 65mph i am at about 2800, and by 70 im at 3 grand in 5th, and its annoying as hell
wizzard_al
M56LK came it at least in 2001, that is what I have in my S60 T5 Manual. And the final drive ratio is 4.00:1, not 3.57:1. It is an internal slave trans.
ozzimark
I was always under the impression that the M56LK was the trans that shipped with the diesel engines?
Keep Calm Chive On
I had the same thoughts going through the pocket data booklet regarding the M56LK And also, "Alternative Gear Ratios" ... is this something you would personally buy from Volvo then fuck with? This transmission from a 95 850. The new transmission was from a 93 850. So looks like my 95 is a 4.00:1 and the 93 is a 3.77:1. I am going to count 1st gear later today. Keep Calm Chive On
Would it be possible to use your chassis number to see what exactly you have & then the chassis # of what is "new"? I think there are break points and that might help decypher what you got. I am a 1998 S70 T5m... but in reality I am a 1997 and my chassis # is below the break for SM->DM flywheel... perhaps VIDA or VADIS can break this down? I have yet to reinstall VADIS because officer twatpocket computer dude... deleted VADIS folder because "it took to long to transfer a single file" which in my book was the most important file... dicks
boxpin
Are you asking for the chassis number of the cars they came from? Not going to happen....they came from the wrecker. If there are marking on the trannys that I can get then certainly. Keep in mind that both 'stickers' are gone so unless there are markings on the outside case somewhere we may be out of luck. I did notice markings inside the case (production dates, etc) but thats about it.
