(_8*(l)Homer
So, I used my junk S70 as a test and did an R and R on one of the front wheel hubs, ran into an issue, but it's fine now, quite straight forward. Now I am going to do it on my V70R awd and the setup is different. The pins that hold the caliper to the bracket are not 7mm, what are they (you know the inverted ones) also, the control arm is mounted differently and I do not know how I would easily remove it from the frame. Any suggestions?
Brant
R and R? I just replaced the front drivers' hub on my R about 20 minutes ago. Just pull the bolt off the ball joint and separate it that way; no need to disconnect from the frame. Also, I just unbolted the whole caliper and hung it up by the spring (not sure what you were asking about here).
(_8*(l)Homer
R and R = Remove and Replace. Yeah, I got the caliper off by just removing the whole bracket. I was not able to remove the control arm though. I couldn't get a good grip on the bolt holding the ball joint (13mm i think and may have stripped it). I tried to get the nut on the other side but didn't have a deep socket or a box wrench. I put it all back together cause i had to pick up my wife, so I will pick up a deep socket set and try again tomorrow. Also, I noticed while the car was up that there is some play in the wheel, at 3:00 and 9:00 only. I had this happen before but don;t remember what needed to be replaced. Is it the end links or something else? btw: hope you had a good Thanksgiving.
Brant
Happy Thanksgiving as well. You can get to the tight nut or bolt (depends how it was installed) for the ball joint using the box end of a combination wrench. I used a deep well for the other side like you suggested. Do you have an impact or the correct socked for the hub bolts? I started by hand wrench with an 11mm 6 pt socket and almost rounded them off. Got them with the impact no problem though. 3 and 9 i would think tie rods, someone correct if i am wrong. Take a look while your in there. Check the outer tie rod by hand/visual, if is tight then for sure is the inner.
(_8*(l)Homer
I am looking at the tie rods on FCP and have a couple questions. There are a few different inner tie rods and I don't know what the differences are. Volvo Steering Tie Rod Inner (SMI Rack) - HLC 9191410 - 19.89 Volvo Steering Tie Rod Inner (C70 S70 V70 850) - HLC 3546266 - 19.99 Volvo Steering Tie Rod Inner (SMI Rack) - TRW 9191410 - 41.95 Volvo Steering Tie Rod Inner (C70 S70 V70 850) - TRW 3546266 - 41.95 Which one would I get for a 1998 V70R AWD? Brant
If you scroll down it talks about it in the product description. IPD says there is a number on the ID plate by the battery to check against.
(_8*(l)Homer
Yep, turns out to be a TRW rack. I will check if the outer, inner or both are bad and order. Looks ok to replace myself.
