Modus
What is the maximum depth of a door speaker I can get away with and not interfere with the window?

andyb5
My 6.75" Alpine SPS-600C's fit in the fronts with a decent amount of room. They're listed as top mount depth of 2.25", conservatively I'd say you could fit 2.5" no problems. I know the rears are 2.25" max, without modifying the speaker bracket. Modus
Thanks, well I didn't realize that the front speakers are 4 ohms for one thing. Doh.. didn't make much of a difference. However I chose the Dayton Audio RS150T-8 6" Reference Woofer Truncated Frame at a max depth of 2, 3/4" I did have to modify the speaker bracket to fit the 6". The sound is so much better for the mids, much tighter. I think a 3" depth would be pushing it since the woofer is mounted on an angle. thanks again. Just a suggestion if your looking for some more midbass, overall better sound quality, and less road noise, sound deaden and seal up the door panels. Apply CLD tiles (few mm thick aluminum, with butyl on one side) to 25% of the outer sheet metal (behind where the glass window goes down). Cut up some cld tiles and place around inner sheet metal (same panel the speakers mount on to). Use MLV (mass loaded vinyl, thick and heavy) to cover the inner sheet metal (since it's heavy, I normally use heavy duty type velcro for mounting). Then one last layer of CCF (closed cell foam, thin, soft) over the mlv. The CLD tiles will help reduce panel resonance, MLV will absorb and deaden sound coming from outside and help create a barrier between the inner sheet metal panel and space behind where the backwave of the speaker will propagate, and the CCF will stop any rattles from the plastic/wood door panel rubbing against the sheet metal. This should kill any annoying rattles, reduce chances of sheet metal flexing from resonance, quiet the cabin, and remove cancellation (improvement in midbass). You can find the products here: http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi The owner, Don, is extremely knowledable and will not try to sell you more then you need, his pricing is also very good in comparison to stinger, dynamat, second skin, etc. Also, stay away from any sound deadener involving tar based adhesives, and don't use peel n seel from your local home improvement store. chefhow
In my C70 it is EXACTLY 3". Deadening the doors and sealing them up will help a great deal as well.
Modus
Agreed, did tighten up the door with sealing it with HAVAC tape. That did wonders.
