Wide Angle Mirrors - Install

Bah

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

So i recently just bought a passenger side wide angle mirror (as i'm sure a bunch of you just did :P). Haven't got a chance to look at it, but i want to install it soon. Any tips/comments on installing it? How exactly do i pull the old one out? I seem to recall a thread on this, but no dice finding it, so if you can link to it i'd appreciate it. I seem to recall you literally pop this out and push the other one in, but something about the plastic clips are brittle and can break? Pretty much if anyone has a writeup on doing them i'd appreciate it.irro

Now to the other note, while goofing around on vardis looking for part numbers, i stumbled upon this:

part number: 9171308

Which lists as Glass, L.H. Wide Angle.

Tasca has them listed for a reasonable price, and since i have to make an order to them next week i might throw this in too.

http://www.skandix.de/en/spare-parts/body/mirrors/mirror-glass-outside-mirror-driver-side/1004446/ - they sell them as well.

So does anyone know if this mirror is heated? I'm assuming it fits into the motor for our cars as well? And the pictures show no bacon symbol on vardis on that webpage, so for those of us who don't want bacon ( i know i know lol)

Not to hurt peoples sales on these, but i seem to have trouble finding the drivers side on the for sale, there is always tons of passenger.

Thanks guys

Bend a wire (like a cheap cloth hanger) that fit in between the glass and cover, same as the wide of the mirror (make two of them), and pull straight to avoid breaking the glass. Mostly all of them are heated do to the origin country (always cold ) some chinese stuff maybe not. For that price in that site you can have both including shipping.

You can find drivers side mirrors on ebayde.com there are a lot of OEM used V40/S40 left side wide angle mirrors for sale....they are the same as the 70 series. Search for Volvo Spiegel or Volvo Spiegelglas or Volvo Außenspiegel.

To pull the old ones out just get your fingers behind the glass and carefully pull it straight out...there are 4 clips around the motor. Then detach the spade connectors and work in reverse to install.

When I replaced both of mine I simply tucked the mirror in as far as it would go so the outside was sticking out more. Slipped my fingers behind the glass and popped them out. It took about 2 minutes for both sides. They just snap in and you have to take off the little clip for the heated. Mine are also bacon symbol free but they are still heated. if you have two people and your still having a hard time maybe you can wedge a bone tool in 1 side and just use the switch to rotate it in that direction & pop them off. I wouldnt do this if its cold out or if the parts are cold as the plastic clips would be prone to crack

I did this 14 years ago, I adjusted it so that one edge was accessible, and the mirror just popped out. I think I used a plastic knife rather than a screwdriver.

One of the mirror adjusting cams also popped out, and I just popped it back in. Since the plastic was new then and is 14 years old now, I'd be even more careful.

i can't believe there's a thread for this

I've asked/made worst threads then this :P

Thanks for the info guys. Seems like there is a right way to do it without breaking the plastic, especially since it got down to 50 here in Florida ;)

Tasca is going to write you back and tell you they're no longer available. Ask me how I know. ;)

Borton used to have them but stock is gone. Try other dealers they might still have new old stock. Or you can go the European eBay route as Adam suggests.

Ahh good to know. I figured there was a reason i haven't heard of anyone buying them out of tasca.

I think he is out at the moment...he had a crazy awesome deal on the passenger so i figured i should get matching :P

1,000,000 yen...that's just too much. How about...3000 yen? :P

I got mine set of driver side and passenger side from Borton about 15 years ago. For the driver side, Borton also sold a special mirror trim which was "thinner" next to the convex lens side. Original trim was too "wide" which would block some portion of the convex lens area. Passenger side mirror had no special trim. Those mirrors and trim were Volvo parts and they were heated mirror too.

After about 15 years, so far so good.
