goobernoodles Posted December 27, 2011 Report Share Posted December 27, 2011 I'm starting to do some research on my next set of tires for the spring and from a bit of reading it seems like Michelin Pilot Super Sports are a great tire. Looks like they provide exactly what I'm looking for: great dry traction, good wet traction, decent treadwear (300). In addition, from the reviews, they're relatively quiet for a performance tire and the ride quality is good. Has anyone used these tires? Any opinions on other tires with the same qualities? Gideon35T Posted December 27, 2011 Report Share Posted December 27, 2011 Hankook Ventus Evo 12 k110 - I have loved these tires and I'm very happy to see that prices for them have come down. I've now used them on 3 or 4 cars and the S60 will be getting a new set of them again. Best fwd performance street tire for the money in my opinion. I'm also amazed at how long they've lasted despite my abuse. The wet weather traction is pretty good considering how great they are as dry weather tires. Road noise I can't speak to however. It's a great tire and is relatively quiet. Sticks like glue to hot pavement but be extremely careful if/when it is cold and wet outside (cold = <50 degrees) I'm getting a set for my solars after the good luck I had with the volans. That temp warning is actually a good point. Here in Arizona there really isn't a worry but I def get spin in the cold mornings lately. Those PSS's are on the upper end of what I'm looking to spend, though I think skimping on tires is pretty dumb. What I'm looking for was listed in the OP: great dry traction, good wet traction (I'm in Seattle), with decent treadwear. Secondary priority is ride quality as my IPD springs aren't the nicest to the butts of my passengers. That and the roads around my work are absolutely horrible. One more thing - I recently changed from 215/40/17 summer tires to 215/45/17 snows and the increase in sidewall meat helped a TON in the ride quality department. As far as performance goes - will moving from 40 to 45 of the same tire type create more roll/sidewall flexibility or will the difference be negligible? Then he will be avoiding this tire since for at least half the year it doesn't get above 50 degress in the Seattle area, and we are known for wet weather. T5Hammy Posted December 28, 2011 Report Share Posted December 28, 2011 I've had great luck with goodyear eagle f1 asymmetric, I live in Bremerton and have had no issues in the wet but snow/ice will make you cringe. They don't have quite the treadwear rating you wanted, they're 260, but they lasted me two summers. One of those summers I drove from Denver to Boston and from Boston to all over the east coast (about 20,000 all told) and I still could run them for another half season. The road noise is almost nill, the wet traction is about a 7 out of 10 and the dry grip is amazing. ean carr Posted December 28, 2011 Report Share Posted December 28, 2011 I have yet to find a tire that could be the Goodyear Eagle GT. amazing traction, sidewall flex (or lack of), wet traction. Nothing I have used (GFgoodrich g-force twd2, hankook evo v12s, michelin PS2s, Yokohama avs es100s, fuzion ZRi's, sumitomo zti, conti pro-tontact, and a couple more) has been a better tire.
