1999 Xc70 Surging At Idle.

Surging at idle, is this a cry from the Volvo for a tune up (plugs/coil-pack/wires) or is there something else wrong? Here is a video of it.

Also the driveshaft was just removed a few days ago due to the carrier bearing being completely shot. Don't think that is related though. Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

CEL?

Also you don't have wires, just coil packs and they will throw a CEL is dead.

Woops didn't mean wires. Yea 99+ got those sweet things.

A throttle body cleaning may help, could be early signs of a failing ETM.

I will do this tomorrow me thinks. ETM? Oh gawd <_<

i know i know i know pick me! call en route ;)

Call received! Thanks for the advice Thomas  you da man.

Video is worthless. Is it cycling between 600 and 1200 rpm? If so, classic symptoms of ETM needing replacement. Need to go to the dealer, or find someone with VIDA/DiCE combo, and have a sweep test done on your ETM. Even if it doesn't fail that test, it can still be bad. I had one that barely was off on the sweep test, vinally got factor rep to authorize replacing ETM, because all the other symptoms were present, and problem immediately went away. Look into Xemodex if you need a replacement, about same cost as OEM, but it shouldn't fail. My mechanic told me the average life of these units seems to be 75,000 miles, with some going a lot longer, and a few dying much sooner. Based on my car, the 75,000 miles seems to be right on the money.
