Koni And Eibach

So I finally got my new stuff on, the setup is Koni Sport Yellow and Eibach Pro Kit on all four corners. It's defnitely a lot stiffer than the MacPhersons that were on there, but not so much I regret doing it.

As far as replacing hardware when doing new struts/shocks/springs: I replaced nothing in the back, the rear shock mounts looked fine at 84k miles. The lower nut and the upper nuts weren't rusted or stripped. On the front, I did new spring seats and new nuts for the strut mount bracket. Everything else went back on and so far, so good.

The final measurements are 13" from center of the wheel to the bottom of the fender. It's stayed pretty even front-back wise, I know some folks had the front sit lower. My front was 14" before the new springs so that's about an inch drop, maybe more once they settle.

Please excuse the streaks in this next one, I waxed it today and didn't get the chance to bust out the power buffer.

Okay now I have a question... I start her back up, and I see the TRACS and ABS lights on in the dash. They weren't on before I replaced the front, but as soon as I start up, they're on. The only thing I can think of is that I might have damamged the ABS sensor wires when removing them from that bracket on the strut. I tried disconnecting both battery terminals and clamping them together for 10 minutes, and both lights are still on. Any thoughts?

Daylight pictures will come when, well... daylight comes. Cheers!

looking GOOD!

did you install the rears right out of the box?

if so, pop them off and set them for full soft, it maakes a big dif IMO

Koni measures stiffness in half-turns (at least that's what their website calls it). I had mine on 3/4 full stiff and it was waaaay too hard. It's now 1/4 stiff and I'm happy. I'm still playing around with the fronts to see what I like. I did notice right away that the car doesn't pitch forward and then back when braking hard and stopping. I love that!

are those 40's on the titans?

215/45Z R17 Yokohama ES-100's... I love them!

Try unpluging, spraying contact cleaner and re plugging all of the wheel sensors. I knocked one loose when I did my suspension change and that fixed it right up. Probably just a loose connection.

fabulous :) Swaying my decision in the direction of the eibach springs... so you mentioned the rear on 3/4 full was too harsh? Did that help performance, though?

Looks great man!

As for the tracs/abs you probably knocked the wire around while you were down there, take the rim off and look for a sensor that appears to go into the back of the rotor. Make sure that's plugged in/not cut anywhere up the wire loom.

It's tough to say whether the rears being that stiff helped performance, since I had the rears on for about a week before I did the fronts (had to wait for spring compressors). I had it that tight for two days before I turned it down. I was driving down the freeway and I was bouncing up and down a little, like riding in a huge truck. If I take my car out to the track (which there aren't many here) I'll tighten them up and let everybody know how it feels. As for a daily driver, which this is, it took me five mins of driving to decide it was too tight.

I checked all four speed sensors, they're all plugged in fine. I may have damaged a speed sensor wire when I pulled them off the bracket on the strut, doing a diagnostic (hopefully this week) to see what's up.

Holy crap Andy!  That looks awesome!

Thank you!

lucky you! and your looks so nice!

The car looks great! I like how close the 45 series tires sit to the fender. Any rubbing on turns?

I'd say something is up with the wheel speed sensors(disconnected or broken wire) since without that both tracs and abs would not function. If everything is connected you might try pulling some fuses to let abs/tracs reset. Good Luck!

are there any sorta tricks to ensure that it settles properly?

just wondering from you guys who have this stuff

only a couple months to go before i get the cash

I don't think there's much you can do. I guess you could haul a couple bags of concrete mix around for a while :P to get it to settle faster. The front seemed to nudge down a bit after just a day, but I haven't measured so I can't confirm that. I'll check it this weekend, to give it some time, to get a follow up measurement.

I do rub on the inside of the wheel well, but I've done that since before the drop. It's not much, maybe a 2" patch that's showing contact. Probably just the 45's. As for part two, I'm thinking the same thing. I fear it might be a bad speed sensor (expensive!). I didn't pull fuses yet, I might try that.

Thanks again for all the comments guys!

Check junkers for wheel speed sensors.

I figured they rubbed. I used to rub a little on my old '95 850 with 215/40/17 w/ipd springs. I eventually went up to 45s after I bent every single one of my rims! Then it really rubbed, it took the paint of the car behind the wheel well cover. After that I scored some "16 turbo wheels for free and put those on and sold the tsw's and rubbing went bye bye. I'm glad it sounds like yours don't rub that bad.
