Out Of Ideas, Again.

So, did a transmission swap, manual to manual since I had a bad syncro. Ever since then, most unreliable starting ever. When the car is cold, it wont ever start, unless i pop start it. Then it fires right up like nothing happened. When it's warmed up, it starts a little more reliably, just long cranks. Again if I pop start it, fires right up. Ive changed, cam and crank sensors, coil is an msd, ignition switch, ignition is msd, but I just put that in. I checked the wires from the crank sensor and cam sensor for resistance, all normal. I checked the ground on the transmission, the straps on the engine, and the one on the front of the engine, all secure and clean. I know I measured voltage drop when cranking but I cant remember the numbers, but I know it was nothing crazy. Ive switched relays and everything. I just need some fresh ideas here.

And its spark related, it barely sparks when cranking, and then all of a sudden itll just start sparking like normal. IF it decides to, then it starts. Fuel pressure is fine, i can hear the fuel pump turn on and everything.

did you double and triple check the wires to and from your coil and ignition...I know when I first installed mine it was iffy until I really made those connections super good...sometimes mine would randomly not start and sometimes it would quit while running...that is terribly disconcerting :excl:

I can only imagine it cutting out while driving could be pretty freaky. It did it before the ignition was installed, and before the coil was installed. Such a weird problem.

It did it before I put the 6AL in, and before I put the coil in. One of the guys I used to work with at the dealer told me hes seen this happen before from corrosion between the tranny and the engine. the starter wont be grounded properly and will actually screw up the crank sensor signal.Guess im gonna give that a shot!

sorry you did said that above...improving the grounding will certainly not hurt a thing...my curiosity is piqued...

I would say it could it be a bad starter + wire or the ignition /starter wire but that does not seem like it would impact spark as you described?

good luck...

triple checked the grounds. I made sure. even sanded them haha. And the starter has also been replaced. I'm leaning onit has something to do with the starter interfering with the crank sensor, it only wont run when its cranking. pop starts like a beast. ill let you guys know.
