Matt01
Hello So basically I have an Oil leak that's covering the right side of my engine including inside the timing belt cover. It would seem that I have to redo my timing belt job now that it's wet in oil. I thought it was my oil cooler lines for a long time, they were badly rusted; but now that ive changed them (all OEM) it still leaks. Im sure it's not the T stat housing because it looks bone dry whereas the area around it is covered in oil. When I remove the timing belt cover, it's very greasy inside, not so much at the top, but alot at the bottom, and all the way down to the right engine mount, the control arm, chassis too. Makes me think it can't be just a cam seal. Here's the kicker, when I did my T belt, I had just got the car, i didnt know to use OEM parts, and I did infact use Jobber cam seals. It has been MAX 2 years since ive done it. Could that be the cause of the problem, I really don't want to change timing belt to have to do it again If it still leaks. Ive already bought a brand new OEM kit and OEM seals off FCP. What's the probability of the cam seals being at fault? Another question is if it was a turbo oil line, or the oil t stat housing (or other) could the oil splash into the timing belt cover and cover it in oil? Even the back of the timing belt cover is wet, the axle aswell.. Let me know! Im scared my t-belt will fail due to this. Thanks guys

Yellow95
If its cam seals you will see the trail of oil. Take the timing belt cover off and look closely. Pics would also help. Gary
laird
Non OEM cam seals are lousy. The Tstat housing doesn't have any oil in it. Could be a front main or oil pump issue too. The oil cooler take off is another place to look.
Matt01
i hope its not a from main, or oil pump. I was looking at the whole back of the timing belt cover is covered in oil, it looks like it's running down that, leaking directly onto the axle, which spins, sending it all around. I think it may be the left hand side cam seal. Thanks, it looks like im going to have to check the oil pump and main when i have the timing belt off. Oreo931
It sounds like front cam seals. The seals will leak oil behind the inner tbelt cover and drip oil down onto the area you described. Aftermarket cam seals do not last on these cars. You're lucky you got two years out of them IMO. I've seen them leak after 6 months.

Matt01
as stated, it could also be the front main seal, or oil pump, but im not too sure of the location of the oil pump.
Brad850
It's directly behind the crank gear. The bottom most gear that the timing belt rides on. Held in by four torx screws.Pictures from both the top and the wheel well would definitely help!
Brad850
O and one more thing I would only keep that belt on there until you find out where the oil leak is coming from and fix it. Then buy a new belt.
