ohsleeper
Can someone help me with what the procedure is to do this? Is it more involved than just putting the mechanical tensioner where the old pulley goes? I know the hydro one is better but I ordered the wrong one and I don't mind having to replace the tensioner every belt change.
InitialDriveGTR
If you ordered the hydraulic belt, you need a different belt. Check this thread out: PS I would either return the mechanical tensioner, or sell it, and then get the hydraulic setup
ohsleeper
Yeah it's mostly a timing thing. (ha no pun intended) the belt and other goodies are already off. Not really sure what hole it's talking about without looking. If its not the same spot for the pulley I wonder why it would be there before the mechanical one was in use. InitialDriveGTR
It's where the top bolt of the hydraulic tensioner usually goes iirc. My guess is when they converted to the mechanical tensioner, they designed the tensioner to fit onto existing hydraulic tensioner blocks
ohsleeper
Oh ok that makes sense. Hmmm...
Yellow95
Did the hydraulic tensioner fail or is it leaking? If not then you are good to reuse. I dont think I have ever heard of a oem hydraulic tensioner failing.
ohsleeper
People usually replace at least the tensioner pulley though correct? And If I were to leave it I would have to get a different belt.
ohsleeper
Can someone confirm that the mechanical tensioner goes in the top hole for the hydraulic unit?
Keaton85
If you are converting to mechanical you need to drill and tap a hole. I always thought it was already predrilled but found that out the hard way when converting my T5M. It's possible but I would just keep the hydro setup due to this fact. So at a minimum replace the tensioner, belt and idler.
ohsleeper
Perfect that's what I needed to hear. I'll get the other set up ordered. Thanks.
