ProAv Posted April 21, 2012 Report Share Posted April 21, 2012 While doing an oil pan repair that may get documented elsewhere in this forum, I noticed this rectangular part with rubber lines running to it bolted to the back of the pan. burnout8488 Posted April 21, 2012 Report Share Posted April 21, 2012 It's an oil cooler. Oil flows through it as well as coolant. The oil can get hotter than the 170-190º the engine is designed to run at, so the coolant effectively removes heat from the oil inside it. Never saw one like it before I had my Volvo either!
