sdancer
so i just replaced the pcv system today on my volvo and now the top hose near the plugs wont stay down and if i clamp it hard it just works its way up the aluminim spout it is suppoed to clamp to. so far i have been using the screw driver/ratchet style hose clamps that ipd provided. Im going to buy some Oetiker clamps tomorrow to see if that makes a difference. any other ideas? ps it starts to blow off after anything other than granny style driving
Kevin.
so are you saying that while you're driving it loosens itself? or that when you clamp the hose on, it slides up slowly?
sdancer
both. if i clamp it as tight as i can it works it self up until it pops off. but if i clamp it to a tightness where it wont start moving up it will blow off while driving and spill oil on my valve cover. Kevin.
still using the original clamp for it? that could be your issue
sdancer
nope im using the one ipd provided which is not the Oetiker style clamp, but a basic hose clamp (the kind you screw with a screw driver or ratchet to tighten) and like i said im going to get a oem style one tomorrow, while driving like a granny to not blow if off. RobT5M
Do the following, this happens more then you would think to multiple people. Clean the inside of that hose with a rag where it connects. aka, stick a rag on your finger and stick your finger in the hose to clean. then clean the part coming out of the engine you are sticking it on, now take some sand paper (any grit will work just need to rough it up a little) Rough it up a little, whipe it quick with the rag, and put it back on. You might be able to get away with not sanding. I dont see why its necessary if you get all the oil off the two connections, but I was told by a few people here to sand it. Clamp down on it and your done. What happens is your not getting all the oil off of that pipe/tube/hose combo and it is slipping off due to the pressure. I did this and I cant even think how many others I know have done this.
sdancer
yeah that was one of the tings i was thinking of doing too. I had imagined this had to be a common problem but i couldn't find anything on it. Would a little carb cleaner on a q-tip (not spraying it in the hose) be a bad idea to get rid of the oil inside the hose or would that damage it? Its literally going to be as easy as just using a rag. Theres not that much oil in there to begin with. No need to over do it. Just get a rag and clean/dry the connections off. sdancer
ok thanks for the quick replies, i kinda sorta have to drive to Indianapolis tomorrow haha
RobT5M
 well dam. Go ahead and try it now then and take it for a drive. If it still slips off hit it with some sand paper and do it again (making sure to dry/clean any oil up again) And make sure that clamp is tight. Wouldnt want you to get too far and have it pop off. That would suck.
survolvo
I had this problem too. I hit it with some sandpaper, than put a few drops of superglue. Been almost a year without trouble.
BlackBrick
funny, i originally used the OEM Oetiker style clamp and had it leaking on me (I probably didn't tighten it right). Switched to a simple worm clamp, and it stays put no problem. I DID use a 1/4" socket rachet on it instead of a simple screwdriver, so maybe I got it much tighter. sdancer
Well I used the sandpaper and rag trick and bingo all fixed! A couple of full boost runs and it's staying put. Now I can finally clean up my valve cover and have it stay that way. Thanks
