Volvo Has Finally Released The Software Numbers To Clear Ecm's

Recommended Posts

It's been a long time coming. Volvo has kept software under wraps for a long time, but has finally made it public. Hope this helps those of you in the ECM swap process.

Taken from the bulletin:

DESCRIPTION:

It is now possible to reuse a programmed ECM (Engine Control Module). This was earlier

impossible due to vehicle unique Immobilizer codes. Benefits for this feature are several:

SERVICE:

NOTE! Immobilizer codes can only be erased with VIDA in the same car as ECM

was programmed for. To erase, follow these steps:

- Connect vehicle to VIDA and choose Software Manager.

- Order Software Product, P/N 8691406 for P2 cars

- Order Software Product, P/N 8691430 for P1 cars

- When software is available, download to vehicle.

ECM is now "virgin" and can now be swapped with another vehicle or used later.

NOTE! Sometimes the car may start, even though the "erase" SW has been downloaded.

This is no error, and it will still be possible to do a ECM reload in another car.

VSTG OPERATION NUMBER: 36004-2.

That's great!

Just trying to understand this statement from the bulletin.....

was programmed for.

It looks like you would need the car that the ECM was in originally, in order to erase the ECM. What about an ECM bought at a JY?

It does read that way, but I'm currently seeking advice from someone more knowledgable about this.

I've talked with Lucky about this. He knows how to change the immobilizer code, so that it is blanked. don't know if he knows what a "virgin" ECU looks like as far as code goes, but if he did, then yes, you can do that.

I've got 2 spare ECU's for 2000-2001 cars, and Lucky told me that he can use those to clone another car, or so the owner could have a spare ECU if (s)he wanted.

Did you ever get any more information about this? I'm in the process of swapping a 04' S60 T5's B5234T3 + M56L into my 00' S80 2.9 and I was originally going to use a Vipec V44 standalone ECU. If I can change the S60s ECU to a virgin state and then transplant both the ECU and the S60's harness into the S80 then I can save a lot of time and money.

ME7 in C167 native boot mode:

MPPS and Galletto interfaceses can read/write the complete flash.

KKL interface can read/write eeprom with free software made by ArgDub.

KKL can also read flash with Minimon software and with the correct drivers also write.
