Bsr Stage 3 Ecu

I just picked up a used BSR Stage 3 ECU but know little about it (and don't find their site very informative, plus they haven't returned my emails.)

1) How much do they cost new?

2) How do they compare to the standard IPD ECU upgrade?

I bought this for a future project (and because it seemed really cheap compared to what I see the IPDs going for - luckily I got both my IPDs with used cars so I didn't have to pay for them) but am wondering how it would be with my current set-up. I have a very reliable 1995 850 Turbo with IPD exhaust that is my daily driver. I don't want to blow it up by running this BSR Stage 3 ECU if it is only meant for a heavily modified car.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I would try it out...you wont "blow" the motor...if anything it will run rich...i wouldnt be worried at all. Dont know much about bsr but i do know that you can run a stock 850 at 14lbs with mbc and be just fine i did it for months till i got my ard tune.

The BSR stage 3 is a decent chip and actually what I run in my own car. However, for the real BSR upgrade they run a different fuel regulator to give apparently 5% more fuel. I do not run this regulator and suggest not to as it will only make you run rich. I run 16T strait flange, BSR stage 3, Ported exhaust manifold, OBX 3" downpipe and 2.5" catback, 16T strait flange, and 20lbs of boost(MBC) falling to like 13lbs at redline (stupid small turbo) and on my dyno runs I have always been 12.6-12.8 AFR (both cold and hot days)

I have ran pretty much every tune except for ARD (was not around at the time) but given what I know unless your running some different larger turbo I bet its close to the same HP/TQ (Speed tuning, Upsolute, BSR S3, IPD) and found only small differences with all of them. The Speed tuning actually made the most HP/TQ over the rest but it was an insignificant number and IPD made the least but again not huge differences less then 10whp from best to worst when all chips were running the same boost levels 17psi in this case.

Anyways, to answer your question there will be no problem of running it on your car. If you are still running the stock boost control then you will gain some HP/TQ from the boost gain.

Just because you are able to run 14psi with a MBC doesnt mean you arent running lean. Thats why you tune for a mbc, to introduce more fuel.

What is MBC?

From what I have been reading it appears that the BSR Stage 3 runs higher boost than my current IPD. What is the max boost I can run on a stock engine before I need to upgrade things? I am not so worried about fuel mixtures and efficiency as I am about doing damage. For the time being I want to get the most I can out of the car without worrying about hurting the engine.

^ You need to do some reading. Fuel mixture, if incorrect, is one of the things that can do damage.

And as Fishey already explained, running the BSR tune will be fine, especially considering you're on a stock turbo.

I ran 20lbs on an ipd Stage 3 for about 2 years with and MBC. Never any issues. FMIC, OBX, Intake and whites. Ran strong

Some Ecu's compensate for extra fuel needed to a certain point. But every Map is different. Im not to familiar with BSR
