andyb5
My friend's 04 S60 drivers seatbelt keeps locking up on her. What I have been told is that one mechanic tried resetting some sensors (I have no idea which ones) without any change or improvement. The dealer quoted her $800 to replace "something" (again, I have no clue what ) Is this a common problem, and are there any obvious places to start checking for problems? Che'_Moderator
If the reels are shot the only options I know of is replace it. There are some half asses repairs out there involving string and such, but......
Ihatespeedbumps
Yup, like Chuck said the reels usually break. If you could source the part they are pretty easy to replace...
andyb5
Hm ok thanks guys. When you say the reel, do you mean the belt assembly in the pillar? If so, what is involved in removing/replacing one?
Ihatespeedbumps
Yep, have to get the entire belt assembly. To remove you'll need to remove the B pillar trim. This can be a little tricky. The best method I've found is to remove the seal on both the front and rear door frames. At the top of the B pillar you'll see some metal clips, pry those off. Next you'll need to remove the door sill molding, simply pops off. For the rear you'll need to get the backseat out. Once you have B pillar trim loose from the clips you'll need to slide it down in order to get it out. At this point you need to remove the small trim piece where the seatbelt enters the B pillar trim. Next remove the seat switch panel (lifts up from the rear) and press the tab to release the seatbelt from the seat. You'll see two bolts that secure the seatbelt assembly, remove those and it's out (be careful with the SRS connector) That's a little run on, but it'll be self explanatory when you start digging in. andyb5
Ok, thanks!! I assume I need to disconnect the battery to prevent any SRS fault lights or something like that?
Ihatespeedbumps
Yes, that would be wise.
