Is Fcp Losing It

Ordered Meyle end links. GOt Taiwanese crap. NOt the first time I've heard of this kind of thing there.

I'm in CT and have to pay sales tax. I do this out of convenience and support of a site member. I could easily go elsewhere. I'm also a top 500 buyer from them.

They changed their code policies and other things, but this is not good. My car is shceduled for the shop for other things and the endlinks were part of the services. Now I have to make contact, and do the return game, hopefully at ther expense and not mine. And no end link service gets done wiht the rest of my supension parts.

Any other similar CS issues with them? Like I said I have had other members tell me of similar problems lately.

I recently made a list of parts side by side comparing Tasca with the "New Lower Prices" at FCP..

Tasca was cheaper across the board. and their total with shipping was $40something cheaper. This was for Radiator, oil lines and associated cooling parts

Tasca just charges UPS rates and I am OK with that and as far as shipping times they usually have 1 or 2 handling days (they are a dealership, not a mailorder warehouse).

FCPs free shipping is parcel post which takes a while and no tracking..plus they usually make a mistake. Once in a while I don't mind but I don't like to make 2 or three phone calls on every order

Tasca emails me a confirmation and a tracking number now and they have yet to make a mistake. If I order it Monday I will almost always have it Thursday.

I guess I don't have an allegiance to any particular company but I have ordered a lot from Tasca and have been 100% happy..

I will add that the same complaints about FCP come from VW and BMW guys I know as well..who don't bother anymore

I still order from FCP, but probably 1/10 of what I used to buy from them. Their service is fine but many of their aftermarket parts can't be trusted for correct fitment and definitely none can be trusted for longevity. They carry WAY too many products of poor quality nowadays and I see no change in direction for their business model. I can remember when they didn't really have any cheap asian products (10-15yrs ago?). I used to NEVER have issues with the quality of their parts line. Sadly, no longer. They are going for the highest margin and quick buck and their customers are paying for it in frustration and parts failures (in my humble observation). A few OEM tune-up parts are still a good deal when you add their frequent discounting (think ATE brake fluid, Bougicord plug wires, filters, and the like). They always seem to ask for feedback from the community (this is good) but they don't ever seem to fix the problem of parts quality (not good). You can only ask for forgiveness for so long before your customers abandon you.

OEM large parts are ALWAYS cheaper via Tasca. Many small parts are cheaper.

RMEuropean carries a lot of the small parts (seals and such) at better prices than Tasca and you are actually fully aware of what you are buying. RME will notate the OEM parts maker so you can avoid early failures from "bargain replacements". You can buy Corteco seals (Volvo OEM supplier) but at 1/2 the price for not getting the Volvo blue box. Fine with me.

It's important to know what aftermarket parts are acceptable and what needs to be an OEM part. Sadly, there is only a short list of "decent" aftermarket replacements. Very short list in fact. Nobody but a fool or masochist wants to do a repair job over and over again.

You have to buy from several parts houses to get a blend of quality and competitive prices.... Back in the day I probably bought 90% of my parts from FCP, times change....

I agree, but you should search control arm replacement and see how many want to change control arms every few months to save a couple $$$

Josh, I may be in your neck of the woods this week or next week. Trying to knock out a few things in Nashville soon.

yeah, they were absolute dicks to me when trying to get my credit on a core return.

That bothers me more than anything else said in this thread. I understand errors, but be professional about solving them.

Mine wasn't as in-depth as yours but I got tired of the changing discounts, policies, parts suppliers and not knowing WTF I was buying from them. Go with Tasca, go with Darrell Waltrip and know that you're getting good parts for less than you'd pay for unknowns from FCP.

Sean,

I'm sorry you are unhappy with the Meyle product.. Unfortunately we have no control where Meyle manufactures their products. Although they are a German company, most of their products are outsourced to other countries. Some of their products are manufactured in Taiwan, but the quality is still at the highest standard. We purchase over 75k of Genuine Volvo parts a month from our local dealers and we see an increasing amount coming from Taiwan. We have no control over this.

I will be happy to take the product back if you are unhappy. Please let me know what you would like to do.

Thanks,

-FCP

Here's my rundown of what happened with my core return:

The returns section of their website can be confusing. On the top, it says an RMA is required, then there is a special section on the bottom where it doesn't explicitly say the RMA was required.

I shipped the item back to FCP. They received it on Monday. I called on Tuesday, they were absolute dicks to me, saying I failed to read their policy, then when when I explained that their website was confusing and suggested improvement, they said they would handle it (read: nothing has been done on their website). They stated the refund would be complete by Wednesday, and I would receive an e-mail confirming the chargeback.

Friday came, then nothing happened. I called in, and it was handled immediately, without any question?!?! They also mentioned they had no record of my conversation on Tuesday.

Update: I contacted Sean and we sent him HLC brand sway bar links (aftermarket) in error. He should have received Meyle sway bar links (in Meyle packaging with Meyle stamped on the ball joint). We are shipping him out a replacement set on Monday with a prepaid return label to get the aftermarket units back.

What I see a lot of from FCP are parts prices that are randomly completely out of whack. FCP was always helpful to me in the past and for a while I too was a top 500 customer back when I lived in the US. I have no issue with them not having coupon codes but people have been pointing out mistakes in pricing, in description etc. on their websites for a long time and they always say it'll be fixed immediately but they just don't do it. Priorities are elsewhere I guess.

For example:

Genuine Volvo brake pads for an S/V70. They list from Volvo at 79.62, Darrell Waltrip has them for 44.05 and I'm sure Tasca is similar.

FCP on the other hand lists them at 129.35 (See attached screen shot)
