rbodor3
Trying to figure out why my interior is vibrating so much. I think from an accident on the passenger side, the shaft is bent slightly. Lifted the front end, put car in D, and WTH the passenger tire spins/2 as fast as the driver's side.... At about 60mph I get a shudder as if it's out of balance, but goes away above/below that speed. In D car vibrates, but engine mounts are all in very good shape. nobody would believe it without a vid. It's most obvious at the end when I look at the actual CV joint http://youtu.be/35zQmXB-TTM
mune237
One wheel spinning faster....huh...without a true locker, that might not be a problem. That's why they call them differentials
Lorenzo Dobson
i believe that's normal... i cant remember what my instructor had told me along time ago...
TxS70
I'd say it's the axle. I had the same sort of wobble, changed it, and now it's gone.
mune237
Geez...just reread this....you know you have a bent axle, and you are wondering why you have vibrations...
rbodor3
not sure that the axle is bent, that's what I was investigating, and can't tell with just a straight edge and naked eye. The more I thought about it the more I also came to conclusion that the open diff is why one tire is spinning faster, I just am surprised at how much the difference is given the tires were under similar conditions (lifted, no braking) even if the long shaft has greater rotational inertia
mune237
Sorry, just going by what you wrote. hopefully it is just a bent shaft. Yeah even the gears and gear oil inside will affect the rotational bias
rbodor3
Turns out shaft wasn't bent, but still needs replacement. The wheel was bent in the barrel which caused a wobble that over about 3-5k miles wore out the center bearing on the drive shaft. I've replaced the wheel and have a new drive shaft ready to go in, but the damaged drive shaft has worn out the center bearing support. Anybody know where I can get this part (#13) besides the stealership? Maybe I'm just bad at this google thing.
