Audio Input Advice...

Keep Calm Chive On

Recommended Posts

I have been fucking around with the idea of somehow connecting my ipod to the factory head unit. I don't feel like spending the money an a BLITZ system. I scooped up this old thread on how to wire it through the 6-pin amp plug...

It looks pretty self explanatory but this is where the question comes along... I have a 50w factory amp and I would prefer to keep it. Is there a way I could splice into the 6-pin and allow for my iPod to work? Also, I thought I read something regarding it connecting through the CD changer so when you press the Changer button that allows it to play yet I am slow... so let me know.

Didn't say what model radio you have but if you have the SC-811 (or any with the cassette), this is the route I was going to take rather than tapping into the BUS: http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=106676 Similar to what you're planning on for the CD Changer but you still retain usage of the changer...handy for when you want to bust out your old Now That's What I Call Music Volume 3 CD.

rip that cd to MP3, then tell kurt to throw that factory head out and get a new one with aux in and mp3 and usb

I like the factory one because I have yet to find an aftermarket system that looks anything similar to the stock buttons & dials... It never gave me issues and still plays fantastical so I have no intentions of getting rid of it. I just recalled the post of hacking up a 6 pin and it goes through the amp and I don't want to lose my amp. I am not worried about functionality through the factory head in terms of changing songs and charging as I can handle that. I simply want to be able to plug my ipod into a headphone jack and press some magical button that will allow the head unit to play it... anyone ? anyone ? Bueller?

theres a way to solder directly to the tape deck but then you wont be able to play your old cassettes... I lost track of the post but believe its on VS somewhere ..

I found that as well and also on Matthews Volvo Site... the only problem with all of them was that the post kept carrying on in terms of if it worked or not or what way was actually correct. There were a few complaints in regard to it only playing out of 1 side of speakers, one on not working at all, and one fucking up a whole bunch of electronics... I have browsed around and still have yet to find one definitive way to connect it without 2-3 pages of banter on if it worked and what way was actually correct.

I am not interested or concerned about if it will charge or be able to interface with all the factory controls. I simply want to put a RCA to headphone jack permanently installed and have a button that says okay we are running off this shit now regardless of if its a phone, ipod, sony discman, sony walkman, fisher price speak & spell... anything with a headphone jack

I've got a 6-disc iPhone/iPod aux/charging box. Works awesome, except I have absolutely no idea what it's called. Bought it used and forgot the brand. Next time I see you I'll let you play with it ;)

It tucks away in the center console, taps off of the radio's 12v, and the 30pin connector pops out under the passenger seat. Hidden ftw

The best part is that it just uses RCA inputs... so you can use the iPod --> RCA converter or just use a 3.5mm --> RCA cable. Disc 1 is input 1, disc 2 is input 2. Easy as pie.

sooo... does it say BLITZ on it or something? is it just a bunch of wires that I could have my buddy at J&R replicate or does it have some fancy box that does wizardry in it? My buddy was talking about hardlining some RCA thing in through my stereo for a whole 26 dollars but when he ordered one I went on vacation then by the time I came back he installed it in someone else's car

PM me your cellular mobile communication device number cause I thought I had it in my phone but no, no I do not

I keep on not answering your question but another idea is bluetooth receiver in glovebox w/ remote extender. Keeps the stock look and your friends think you're a wizard when the radio is turned off yet your smartphone is emitting frequencies through the car speakers.

Boom and boom.
