Tyc/genera Cooling Fan?

Hello all,

In-laws '02 XC recently began draining the battery when parked. Battery was charged overnight, reinstalled, and immediately the cooling fan started to run. Disconnecting the purple wire does nothing, so I believe the fan module is stuck on and not receiving a false signal from the ECM. Sound right? :)

They've recently put a bit if cash into both cars (Advance raped them for $165 for a battery a week ago; I didn't know they needed one until after the fact)...

That in mind, best price I can come up with on a blue-box fan is $305. FCP (who I haven't dealt with for years, but understand the current thread and/or problems with them) has an aftermarket unit for $208. TYC/Genera brand, have no experience with them. Has anyone else installed this fan and can comment on the quality?

I know the earlier cars had trouble with the plastic modules overheating. That in mind, don't want to risk a fire to save a few bucks. If they're okay though, it sounds like a good option. Picture on FCPs site looks like a generic pic of an OEM assembly. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Thanks,

Joe

any local junk yards? A used one would work. I'm not too sure that they go bad a lot. I paid $100 for a used one just last month. Works great.

Thanks for the reply :). Thought about that, but it seems the P2 cars have a pretty good history of the fans sticking like this. I don't remember seeing it at the dealer, but found a few threads about it here (and on other forums). I'd probably try it on my own car, hate to on theirs :(.

Nearest yard is an hour and a half away, and they rarely have any P2 cars it seems.

Appreciate the help though, thanks!!

Joe
