850T5M
So my car started running low on prestone recently and I'm tryring to figure out if its the head gasket or the turbo? Basically every 3-4 weeks I get the little light on in my dash saying low coolant, mostly when I accelerate (Fluid moves in the tank). When I start the car, there is 0 smoke that comes out of the tailpipe. If I give it just a bit of gas, its fine as well. When I boost the car, probably over like 5psi, I can see a cloud behind me, not really sure what color, but theres a cloud lol Does this usually mean the turbo seals are gone? or could it still be the HG? s_moneh
i just did research on his i was having the same issue. still don't know if i've figured it out or not. but theres really no way for coolant to go missing inside the turbo unless the pipes have come off or somthing. you could have a hg issue
Burn-E
Have you stopped to consider it might be leaking under your floor inside the car due to a failing heater core? The other place to look is in the plastic expansion tank or the hoses - often you get a crack underneath and then it leak only when the car is under compression / running. Which means you don't get any drips under the car when it's sitting.
850T5M
So the turbo can't burn coolant? So the cloud is probably oil lol?
Burn-E
Not the turbo can't burn coolant but your engine can if you have a warped HG.
s_moneh
nope the coolant passages and oil passages have no way of touching, unless you have an internal crack in the casting. but chance of that r slim to none.
850T5M
Alright so I'll look for leaks before assuming it's the head gasket :/
Rsterns
When I had a simular issue, it turned out to be a VERY SMALL pin hole leak in that short little hose that connects the hard line that runs along the back of the motor passenger side. boxpin
I have this too, takes about three weeks then the light starts coming on. Thought it was the heater core since I could smell it when I turned on the heater. Maybe a small pin hole that evaporated. I recently (two weeks ago) replaced the heater core with fingers crossed. Sadly this morning the light came on again. I have not been able to find any leaks anywhere. I did replace the head gasket on this car about 7 months ago. Nothing hits the ground or is inside the cabin. Its got to be going somewhere.
CBoosT5
To all with this problem. Try doing a coolant pressure test. Then a compression test. One of these chances are will pin point your problem almost immediately.
James A Sousa
You might shine a flashlight into each cylinder if one is clean, there is your problem.
