rodrigo
Hi guys, I friend of mine has a 95 850 N/A. Pretty nice, solid reliable car, but when he lets the car idle, and you blip the throttle puffs of blue smoke come out of the exhaust. I cleaned the throttle body, cleaned the flame trap and ran some seafoam through it (smoked out the entire neighborhood) and it still does it. Would this be shot ring or shot valve seats/guides, etc? Thanks :)
Kevin.
sounds like valve stem seals to me if it wasn't the PCV. you could always replace the PCV just to be safe
rodrigo
Well, the PVC and the hoses look like they are in great condition. Do these have an oil catch can/chamber like the 240's?
erikv11
I don't know what the 240 has but the 850 has an oil trap on the right (radiator) side of the engine, under the intake manifold. That blue smoke symptom is *classic* for worn out valve seals, which is a very common problem on these engines. He probably also gets a blue puff at startup after the engine sits overnight - same thing, valve stem seals. The seals can be fixed in the car (hassle, but doable) or the head can be pulled. Get Victor Reinz (OEM) seals or worry they might leak again soon.
