lookforjoe
Didn't read through this thread before - very cool that CJ is doing the work for you - very close attention to details, very nice! Somewhere in my ongoing thread was the percentages for altering the scaling in TT due to the change in area of the MAF. I think just go with moving everything up about 30% (for a 3" ID housing), then play with it from there. Looking forward to some on the road shots soon, no? Looking forward to some on the road shots soon, no? Thanks again for the always helpful info. When you say "move everything up" are you referring to a MAF scaling option in TT? Maybe that would be clear when I look at it again but I haven't in a long time. Could be very soon. There are only a few details left to finish up. On that note, has anyone ever made a custom MAF housing? Using the stock element and 3" aluminum tube? If I understand correct the honeycomb grate inside would be necessary, anything else? hotpantslovebug
Maybe something like this? http://www.ebay.com/itm/MAF-3-25-HOUSING-MK3-VW-CORRADO-JETTA-GOLF-PASSAT-AUDI-/260848856338?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cbbcdad12&vxp=mtr This will give you a true 3'' ID while using the stock MAF sensor. If everything checks out(I believe this is completely drop-in), this will be on the "to buy" list. Welcome back, I wish you the best of luck with your build, pure engine porn to my eyes. andyb5
Hussein (lookforjoe) used an Audi A8 MAF, which has a true 3" ID housing
Über855R
Two things. First, that looks like the type of MAF I'm thinking of. Does anybody know if the honeycomb is necessary to add into an aftermarket setup like this? I read somewhere that it is there to minimize air turbulence before the sensor element for a more accurate reading from MAF. True? Necessary? This might be the deciding factor if this gets made, if it does Cj would have these for sale with the kit he is making. Which leads to the next thing I wanted to mention. Cj has fitted the Garrett turbo and made plumbing lines to make this a mostly bolt on upgrade for people wanting to do similar. So there is a strong possibility that he will have a kit together soon for people interested. A 3" intake pipe and MAF could be part of that kit eventually as well. Takers should send Cj a deposit if they really want to motivate him to get this completed. (just a thought)
Zappo
I already have a SNAAB 3" intake pipe, but I would be interested in the 3" MAF. Also, info on how to scale for it in TT.

I contacted snabb about a 3" intake and he said that was a custom order part. I am assuming you had him make you one custom. Could I possibly see some pictures of what it looks like installed and/or out of the car? As far as scaling for TT, Hussein mentioned at it was possible but I'm not sure where in the program that it achieved yet. I guess we are both waiting for that answer. The more people want one of these 3" MAF housing the more likely Cj will build them. Obviously the A8 housing will work but aluminum would sure look sweet wouldn't it? I removed both of the screens on mine, (ME7 have the 3" Maf) I have zero issues. I've always heard that it's just there as added protection. I also took it off on my old 245 (which is a metal screen vs a plastic) and had zero issue too, IIRC in the Volvo performance handbook it states to remove it. I'm running a custom 3" Maf to turbo pipe on my set up. At lest for me it's very tight to snake in to place and has to be assembled in place and not on the bench. Yeah, it was custom, but I don't remember it being that much more than his normal one. I am looking for photos of it, but can't seem to find any right now. I don't know why he would want to build them when you can get one for only $50: http://www.ebay.com/itm/MAF-3-HOUSING-NISSAN-JETTA-GOLF-PASSAT-VR6-AUDI-A4-TT-MK-4-TURBO-SUPERCHARGER-/261150825433?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3ccdcd5bd9&vxp=mtr
hotpantslovebug
^ only has a 2.750" (70mm ) ID so not true 3". Thats why I would recommend the 3.25 OD that I posted. Also not 100% sure but the orientation of the MAF has to be the same as whats on the car? Parallel to the housing. Anyone have any idea why the one i posted wouldn't work? Just asking because its an easy bolt in fix if so.
