Yep . . . . . Volvo doesn't support the rebuilding of the valve bodies. . . . . . . There answer for a long time was a New tranny. Now they'll do a VB at the cost of like 1500. which has the updated plunger/servo. Come to find out it's the Same VB rebuild kit for the Saab's. I believe it's like 850-900 around there to get it rebuilt.

Best of luck with the B4 servo. I tried that in my Olive 00 . . . . . . . & then had the VB rebuilt. Same thing in the wife's 02XC & the sister inlaw's 01XC, The only one I haven't had to pull is the Other sister inlaw's 05XC VB. (Thus being updated from the factory)

Nice find for 1600. Same buddy has a 02 T5 that had the VB issue & some other minor issue's & he's got it Pre sold for around 8000

If it could have been a 5 speed it would have been an even better deal. Im not a fan of auto trannys at all.

Is there a difference between the IPD B4 servo vs getting one from the dealer. Im assuming Volvo has updated theirs also vs the old one? Its just alot easier to go 5 min down the road than wait a week from IPD to get one plus the cost is much more with IPD by the time I get it here.

A few shots after I brought it to a friends detail shop. Came out really nice although the I phone pics are a little crappy.

The bad is I actually put some miles on it and the biggest issue I have is when coming to a stop it jerks (no noise) just a jerk. Also when its warm reverse clunks when engaging as does drive although the drive isnt as bad. The shift from 1-2 is sometimes a bit (abrupt) and 2-3 is the same although it comes and goes and its very light.

The tranny oil is filthy and a little low. So fingers crossed with a new B4 servo and 12 quarts of Mobil 3309 ATF. I also have to call the dealer where it was serviced to see if the car had a TCM software update. I really cant believe Volvo have the balls to say its life time oil in these trannys

If there already going to have it out why not have it rebuilt with the updated kit ? the kit is only like 150 bux. & doesn't even take an hour on the bench. I can get you the part # for the kit if you'd like. Your paying the same to have it pulled out to just do the Servo.

The B4 Servo can be done without pulling the tranny. But Im all ears for the kit for a $150 if it does have to come out.

Nice looking wagon!

Shame about the auto trans. Hope you get it fixed without spending $$$$

Thanks Hussein. To be honest, I paid so little for this car that Im fine with what ever the tranny needs. Plus I have access to my pals shop where I have an office in the same building. If the tranny needs pulling and fixing I can take care of that for the

most part. But, I really think that the ATF is so dirty that a full tranny flush with Mobil 3309 and the B4 servo will work wonders.

The tranny does NOT need to be pulled to rebuild the Valvebody. Pull the battery & battery try & the access cover is under that area. Pull the cover & you have access to the Valvebody. The rebuild kit is the Same for the Volvo's as it is for the Saab 9-5 trannies. Scanwest Autosport in Seattle Wa. can rebuild the valve body. . . . .Or my buddy that work's at Carlsen Volvo in San Jose Ca. can do it. Normally Scanwest get 850-1000, If they pull the Valvebody, rebuild it, reinstall & refill the tranny. I can find out what both would want for a bench rebuild. (The Valvebody kit is around 150 retail I believe)

Volvo get's around 1500 retail for a New updated Valvebody, Cost is around 1200 wholesale. & honestly the rebuilt one's shift nicer & smoother IMO. I've only had 4-5 of um done.

Valve body rebuild kit. I don't have one of the old boxes around with the part # on it. It's just a phone call away.

01-02 auto tranny, has the servo problem. dont need to have software updated but do a negative to the positive thing with the battery to clear everything then you can redo the throttle adaptives.

I have done the servo update, no trans flush and no reset on cars we bought from auction to do a quick craigslist flip. $2700 sell craigslist for $5500 real fast. with no problems

on cars that i have kept.

18 quarts of toyota fluid iv @ $5.50 qt

clear hose from home depot and do a drail and fill flush.

bought the servo update kit from ipd

if it is solenoids like what NEU is talking about. You will have lockup issues after the vehicle is warmed up. solenoid issues can be taken care of with getting upgraded one from here

So after the new oil and the B4 servo, just reset using the battery right. So no need to bring the car to the dealer for an adaptation reset?

  • 2 weeks later...

3309 ATF is done as is the B4 servo. Tomorrow the car will be getting new front brakes - flex lines - all 4 stabilzer links.

Nobody can give me a straight answer on doing the tranny adaptation. Dealer says its a must and battery reset isnt the proper way and wont work. http://v70r.com/foru...-adapter-reset/ this is the other option. What is the REAL answer here. If going to the dealer and spending a $100 is the correct way and best way then I have no issue with that. But I dont want to waste money if I dont need to.
