'96 854R, Question About Complete Exhaust Labor.

I've had some upgrade type parts for my '96 854R lying around my garage for some time so I decided to get them put on : R manifold, OBX exhaust, ipd cbv diaphragm, and some various silicone hoses. Unfortunately, the majority of my tools were borrowed and never returned :glare: , and my floor jack broke recently. So I have to take my car to a shop. I'm mainly concerned with getting the new manifold and exhaust on (I'm not exactly sure of the process to do this, or else i'd attempt it at my place), the others I can do on my own time if necessary. Anyway a trusted shop I've taken the car to quoted me 575$ to put everything on w/ new gaskets. I was a little surprised by the steep cost in labor, so my question is do you guys think that's about average for this job? I'm located in southern PA if that matters. Thanks in advance.

That really depends on what the exhaust is going to be... mandril bent cost more... adding a cat is at least $100 muffler is $100 to $200.... how much 3" pipe your getting. And of course quality of work. I'd say its not a bad price for a top of the line magnaflow type set up. If its no name stuff I'd say its a little high.

He is talking labor for installing the R manifold, and an OBX exhaust..which considering the removal and re-install of the the turbo and all of its lines seems somewhat fair for what they are doing. that's quoted at what..6-7 hrs avg. labor?..if you have no choice its not terrible. Just make sure they know what they are doing with the turbo re-install

Find out if they are "keeping" the old cat..they know its worth ~$150 bucks and that makes it a little steep

Depending on what your time is worth to you, and if you think you would be able to undertake this, it would be much cheaper to just buy the few tools you need and a jack.

Good point..you could buy a lot of tools and a floor jack for that price...and have the tools for another day when you're done

Yes, this is what I'd like to do, but I'm not sure if my mechanical abilities are up to par. If I could find a good idea of how the process goes; I'd attempt it myself, because this isn't my daily driver, and I can take my time. It's been sitting in a garage for months. And to answer the questions above, they would not be keeping anything. The guy doing it is highly knowledgeable, worked as a Volvo tech for years (drives a modified s70 himself), and knows my car extremely well. If that price seems reasonable, then I'm fine with it, if I come to the conclusion that I could not do it myself. Thanks again, I wanted to double check before I decide which route to take.

Take off something off and put something on. Not that complex.

Are you old enough to drive legally?

Yes, I've been driving for 7 years. I just have very little time for my car, which is why its been sitting and I have parts that have sat for well over a year. I've just been replacing things here and there. So I didn't mean to say it would be overly complex, I meant I don't have the materials at the time to do much. I'll just have to get under there and see what I'd need tool wise cause I have very little. Thanks.

I'll take the other advice on the parts into consideration.

Replacing the manifold with the R is where the cost is really going to go up. I dont think that is unreasonable for what you want done. If you want it cheaper you can shop around or scale back your project.

Yea that's what the guy doing the work told me. If I don't do it myself, I'll probably go with him since he's upfront, knowledgeable and honest.
