yangotang
I use United Mileage Plus. You really should pick a carrier/network based upon your location. United has a hub out of SFO, which is my home airport. If you're based out of Houston (IAH) then you're also good with United. I fluctuate between a Premier and Premier 50k (Used to be Premier Executive). I use Starwood Preferred Guest for all my hotel points. I'm a Starwood Gold. I also book exclusively with National / Enterprise (Same Company Now) and use my Emerald Club benefits to feed my United account. I never found the use in the free days of rental cars because usually when I travel on leisure I do it overseas and they have a completely different set of car rental companies. If you really want miles I would get a United Credit Card, feed it in, then use it. The only problem is I would prefer the cash back, since I can't remember the last time I used my miles solely on a reward flight. As a result, I carry an AMEX Blue Cash. I net out about 2.5% cashback with no annual fee.You should definitely read up on FlyerTalk, since there's a much better discussion over there about points. 25k is nothing these days, United will offer you 60k to select clients. ErikS
Thank you Alex. Yes, I have the United plan based out of IAH. I want to know which CC is giving the best deal, not really looking to give up cash for rewards to start a card. Looking for a 0% card for 12 months, no fees, etc. Like anyone, I want to parlay a CC in my name that I am getting reimbursed for,
MattyXXL
When I was traveling for work I flew nothing but US airways, 38,750 miles in 3 months.and 126,480 in the last 9 months of the year. Platinum status was a un-believable perk First class every flight, Priority boarding, no security lines, and most of all the bonus miles. Once I stopped traveling its only $9 a year to keep my status and unused miles It all depends on how much you plan on flying.. If its just a couple trips a year go with american, but if your going to travel a lot go with us airways or any of the star alliance members.. If your looking for just the benefits almost all cards for specific airlines are the same, requirements to get the miles and status, and black outs.. If you just want to earn miles go with the amex like mike said.

ErikS
Updates? I am in Russia at the moment, but when I get back I will likely do the United gold club card, I think the fee is only $95 and since I will be flying out of Houston on star allaince member airlines it makes the most sense. Thanks for your help Mike.
bdimag
I rock a Amex plat You get points Gives you access to star alliance airport lounges Executive level with most rental cars- I only use national but... Upgrade to concierge level with better hotels Free accompanying int flight ticket I can get you free 25k sign up points I got this a while back when you posted about the 50k sign up points... simply because those points would cover the $500 annual cost via selling Home Depot gift cards on eBay ()... The points were actually only fronted to you, and i somehow managed to get them back in the allotted year... I've noticed that since then, I don't get shit for points, and that's because they changed the points plan (i guess?)... I also didn't use a single benefit. So I just dropped from Plat to Gold Rewards where i'll get 2x points on Grocery/Gas, 3x on Travel, 1x on everything else.... Versus the flat 1x w/ the platinum. $175 vs [i think she said it's now] $450... Easily covered w/ points. just felt like sharing that.
ErikS
About to hit 50,000 miles come next week to Vieques on the card/united mileage since getting it 4 months ago. I've saved around $500 in bag fees so far and the international lounges are quite nice, I wonder what all that free booze and food would have costed me as well. I ended up getting the United Mileage Plus Club - Chase
Timbo Slice
I have a Southwest CC account through Chase. 50,000k points just signing up, one point per dollar spent on miscellaneous goods and 2 points per dollar on bought flights. I have it because I fly Southwest 95% of the time and it really benefits me.
