Jack8745
hi i have a 97 volvo 850 glt and my ac stopped working. It started out by blowing some cold to no ac at all (the compressor does not cycle). when i jump the compressor in the engine bay i get cold air. I took it to a local "volvo mechanic" because he told me that he has access to the volvo ac tool. I maintain my car but without all the fancy ac tools i cant diagnose this. The mechanic told me that the system is charged and that i need a new ac module. This is an auto ac and the module has a diff part number due to 97 glt being special . Well i got another module but the ac compressor still does not come on. when i plug in the original module the ac and rec lights flash (codes) but do not flash when i plug in the "new" one (got from a wrecking yard) someone help me figure this out or if you know of a reputable shop in west LA that wont kill me with $ please let me know thanks Jack
Keaton85
Is the compressor clutch shimmed? That probably the issue...
Jack8745
no the compressor is not shimmed, but when i jump it it enguages just fine this might help some... i was running a montronic 4.3 t5 ecu on this car before i went to 4.4 from Lucky. This might have caused some stuff to fry (according to some this has the potential to fry some ac parts) which parts i dont know but it ran like that for a yearim having a hard time finding the right manual for my ac to i can test stuff. any help there would also help
Keaton85
Shim it, then go from there...
burnout8488
If it "engages fine" when jumped with 12v, why shim at this point?
Keaton85
One very easy fix that can rule out that issue from the start instead of just ignoring it. That way if it's really the issue you wont waste all that time looking for another issue that is not there.
Jack8745
i know its not the clutch gap issue. need more info please although i will shim it just for the hell of it because i know at some point it will need it
