sdancer
So Im going to be replacing my cv axle tomorrow and I just have a few questions before I start work as it is my DD; -When replacing the passenger side axle do I need (or is it even replaceable) a new seal between the transmission and the axle? (auto trans) -I currently am in the progress of procuring parts for a manual swap and I have a good manual axle lying around, can I put a manual axle into my auto trans? (bit of a sanity check because I know an auto cv into a man trans works, but does it work the other way??) -Is the cv axle nut OK to re-use? thanks! erikv11
- new seal is recommended. If you are going to manual swap soon and the seal isn't leaking, then I might leave it alone. But as stated it is pretty cheap, like $15 for OEM or less for a generic. - manual axles are a larger diameter so you have to at least get a different seal to swap them into an auto, even then not sure as I have never done it. - it is fine to re-use the axle nut as many times as you want. sdancer
just an update, manual axle is in the auto. It fits perfectly, no leaking while static at least. however when replacing the old one I did loose a bit of fluid. (maybe 6-12 oz?) The trans fluid was quite brown so im going to get a trans flush and fill, however my question is... do i a)drive it like it is to the shop b)top it off and drive it to the shop (I have a bit of fluid at my house) c)have it towed to the shop. ps, im now in the crowd that does not like aftermarket axles as i had to hammer mine out because it was stuck. (there were also hammer marks on it before I started that lead me to beleive the shop had to hammer it out while repairing it )... sorry just a bit of venting. Keaton85
Drive it, that small amount will not effect a single thing.
