Engine Vibration, Box Of Marbles Sound When Driving

Posted a month ago or so, but still have been unable to find the culprit. So here is the story:

No knocking before, everything was fine

Changed control arms then a sound like a box of marbles under the hood was heard, mostly on the front pass side

Brought car to two different garages, they said "everything looks super tight, we have no idea what the knocking sound is"

Now, I did need to jack up the engine a bit when changing the passenger control arm, so I unhooked the engine mount near the passenger wheelwell then hooked it back up when finished. Engine is resting nicely on that mount.

Top engine mount looks good, where are the other mounts that I can check. Does anyone have any suggestions, other than engine mounts, as to what would cause the sound?

Yep, I did have quite the right leverage, so I used a 4lb engineer's mallet to tighten them :) I had my indie take a look and he said he threw on a 4 ft breaker bar and was barely able to move them a nudge. That was my first thought.

When you installed them did you preload them and then torque them down? If not...do over...

Weak serpentine belt tensioner?

Never thought of that one, I will take a look. How would I check that? The rattle seldom happens at idle.

Yes, I hooked them up, loosely, then drove onto ramps and finished the tightening.

For the serpentine belt tensioner, just rev the engine while standing at the engine bay, with the transmission in park. See if you get any funny knocking from a loose tensioner.

Only other box of marbles sound I can imagine would be drive shaft related. Either a completely shot cv joint, or a improperly seated shaft end in the spindle.

Hopefully you can determine if it is driveline or powerplant....

......and oh yea, you didn't leave the end link disconnected, did you?

I think it is the driveshaft. When I was changing the arm, I was able to pull the driveshaft out, where the boot is. I noticed the box of marbles sound happens more when turining. Am I at any real risk when driving it if I don't replace the axle soon?
