Pcv And Front Cam Seal Leak Questions

I put about 1000 miles on the car since the pcv change and it runs fine. I couldnt believe it myself. I couldnt even break through it with a screw driver, its a solid build up. The canister feels really heavy comparing to the one. I am beginning to think its all caked up inside. That poor t5 had a rough life but I am giving it a second chance. I am amazed at how well the car ran when I picked it up.

Good for you, treat it well and it will return the kindness. If your seals are holding, a few years of quality engine oil and general loving maintenance will help to clear the engine of all that nastiness. I've never seen a PCV as blocked up as yours, you should get an award!

Found the reason for the leak.

As they say: "whenever a new problem happens after a repair, go back and look at areas that you work on".

Sure enough, it was the brand-new front cam seal near the firewall (exhaust cam seal).

Due to limited space (suspension tower), it was difficult install and the inner lip got bungled up.

New seal is in, no more leak!

PS: I will post the tip/trick to install this particular seal later in another thread.

If you buy the parts separately you can get the trap, bottom hose, side hose, and hose to the head. Then make your own hoses from the trap to the PTC and to the intake. The stock one is total junk and worthless to reinstall. I use copper tubing for the main hose with the old fittings and a large vacuum hose for the intake to PTC WITHOUT elbows or hard lines. Make sure to clean the drain very well, it does not have to involve removing the pan. As for the seal, wait until you get the PCV system taken care of.

Keaton,

Just want to say thank you for the copper pipe idea.

I just did my PCV and replaced the junk 3/8" pipe with 5/8" heater hose (instead of copper pipe): no more smoking dipstick!

I posted all the tips here:

DIY: 1998 Volvo S70 GLT PCV Modification, how to get rid of smoking dipstick!
