Amp Input From Stock 01' C70 Hu

Lol... well it looks better than some of the stuff my buddy does to his eclipse :)

Anyone seen this? http://avheadunits.productwiki.com/jensen-vm9022/ (Jensen vm9022)

There it is! Dedicated center channel amp built in! - Also seems to have a preamp output for it.

These were discontinued a while ago- but they're still out there... - Anyone have any experience with the.

I am so sick of being told by so called professionals that it is "IMPOSSIBLE" to keep my center channel- ffs as if no one is offering a 5.1 car audio headunit- even it was ONLY a center pre-amp.

Also- is it acceptable to split the "sub" pre-amp on a head unit that doesn't have a to power the center and sub? Obviously they would be mono- but would it work? I have a low pass setup on the sub amp- so it could accept the full range put out by the HU (if the HU was able to output that... some of the ones in bestbuy could- basically turning the low pass OFF of the sub out).

Any thoughts?

I was going to link to the MS8 but you already have! Seems like a somewhat complicated install though.

These prices are insanely painful :(

I had read up on the MS8 before, looks sick... just seems massively overkill- If I was planning a 2000 dollar audio overhaul I can see having that be part of the "brains" - but I am not...

Really just wanted a simple facelift- a more modern HU to interface with for my already decent sounding stock speakers (plus a sub).

Thanks for the links though either way, good to know about the pioneer system add-on.

I think I am going to bite the bullet on one of these Jensen VM9022's - the dedicated center channel amp looks really promising, It's Dolby Pro Logic too.

It's not exactly old tech. and it has LOADS of good reviews (customer reviews from ebay, amazon and crutchfield all seem to give it 4-5 stars)

I will report back on how it goes and probably show up @ Carlisle next year with it :)

like i told you in the PM.

Jensen is a POS. its your money your car. my money my car, i would not do it. i'd save up for a better unit OR go somewhere and compare the two before clicking away online based off some ones reviews.

example: bought a set of porsche wheels, previous owner used cone seat lug nuts. i can see evidence that they used cone seat. they tell me it was fine with cone seat. My money my car, Porsche wheels ALWAYS TAKE BALL SEAT lugnuts and they 14x1.5mm. I know better.

I'm just gonna give it a shot- its 240 bucks for a fully capable double din, touch screen, dedicated center channel HU from a name brand (Jensen's been around forever and their products have only gotten better from what I read since Audiovox took them over in the early 2000's)

Worse comes to worse I'll return it via square trade or sell it back on ebay...

I just can't justify spending 1000 bucks on a headunit :/

Dude LISTEN TO STEVE!

I'd keep stock before going to garbage like Jensen. It costs 5¢ for a friggin reason...

Theres a Kenwood DNX6960 for $300 on eBay RIGHT NOW, if you want I'll even post the link, but just search DNX6960 and you'll see.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kenwood-DNX-6960-6-1-inch-Car-DVD-Player-/321045076499?pt=US_Video_In_Dash_Units_w_GPS&hash=item4abfc71a13

Oh and Kenwood uses Garmin for GPS, which is the absolute best NAV on the planet. My 8 year old Garmin is guaranteed to smoke that shoddy Jensen...

Well I already ordered the Jensen... if it turns out total shit then it'll go right back. Just figured it's worth the shot. As I was saying to Steve in a PM- I don't really need all the extras, nav, bluetooth etc- if they work thats great, if not then ... well hell it was a 240 dollar unit. Just wanted it for audio and a proper DD touchscreen.

I've read loads of good reviews specifically about this Jensen unit and while I know Steve knows his shit as far as the top-of-the line equipment goes- He hasn't recommended me anything in my budget, nor have I found anything even remotely like this online, or in local stores.... I've had countless people tell me it is *impossible* to use an aftermarket system and retain the surround... bs. I am gonna do this somehow.

The price isn't low because its Jensen- it was a 700+ dollar unit new...its just cheaper now because its been discontinued and is a few years old- just like the 6990... hell this VM9022 even got similar reviews to the 6990

Also- that DNX6960 is NOT "going" for 300 on ebay- the cheapest NIB one of those sold for $380... the current bid price 2 days out is not the final price.

The fan boy crap doesn't really work with me- I've seen Fords die at 55,000 miles and other Fords run till 380,000... everyone makes good and bad shit as far as i'm concerned and if there's plenty of good feedback about a particular model- why not just give it a shot? Why do I *need* to spend more money for a lesser product (that being, the Kenwood doesn't offer a built in center channel amp)....

Poor car... Just leave it's stereo alone rather than putting an ugly piece of shit ghetto ass unit in!

Oh and surround sound is USELESS for quality sound. It's processing makes the soundstage all wrong...

Dolby Surround in MOVIES=good in car stereo=bad I have mine turned off!

My 901 isn't working properly- I've accepted that it needs replaced...

I don't think the Jensen is ghetto- or ugly.

And the dolby surround is nice because it gives the center of the car some audio- especially in the coupe/conv. - the door speakers are muffled by seats, and passengers... the center channel lets both people up front hear a proper left/right sound... or at least close without being mono.

I'm not just jumping on the dis-wagon, but you're getting good input here.

Jensen had some bangin' speakers back in the day, but every one of their

HU's I've ever seen is cheap junk. Just compare the weight against your

old school Volvo/Alpine. That alone speaks volumes.

And to hear that they're standing on Audiovox's rep as a positive? That's just frackin' hilarious!

When I was a dash monkey, we routinely bench tested every single Audiovox that came in.

About half of those POS's were DOA outta the box - Yes, NEW decks. Absolute junk.

All I'm saying is take a good hard look at that thing when it shows. I'd strongly suggest

looking further and farther for an updated unit. You can do waaay better. And at the

very least, check it out on the bench before you make any mods to the dash...

Best of Luck!

Again- I am not saying Jensen is flawless- this unit however seems to have a okay reputation... certainly I am not expecting a 2012-2013, $1000 Pioneer or Kenwood...but if anyone of you can show me a *good* HU for less than $400 that has a dedicated center channel with Dolby Support, a touch screen... and fits a double din dash. Then that would be great... I have been searching for a long long time- this is the only one I've found.

I am entirely grateful for the feedback- don't get me wrong- just wasn't finding anything that really matched what I am seeking so I bit the bullet on the closest advertised match...

Also- like I said- if the Jensen is a total POS i'll return it right away... I'll have ebay and Paypal to back that.... I've dealt with DOA items- that happens with all electronics, its not always that a company *sucks* if an item is DOA... anything could have happened in transit or lord knows...
